I'm a big Michael Franti fan. BT, have you checked out his early hip-hop project The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy? That's a good one (and on Guvera).
@Thom: I think you'd like this (kudos to whoever recommended it here):
Join Gummy Soul's Amerigo Gazaway as he embarks on a 55 minute "Quest to The Pharcyde". Utilizing the original Jazz, Soul and Funk recordings sampled throughout A Tribe Called Quests extensive catalogue, Gazaway recreates classic productions pairing his reinterpreted instrumentals with select vocals from West Coast golden era favorites, The Pharcyde.
My latest download from the European ECM drop - I'll certainly need a booster the way I am going with those. There must now be getting on for 100 albums uploaded to emusic in the last few days.
Having been away from my computer for a couple of days I am following the hip hop discussion with interest - but I'll need to spend time reading it fully. It's a pity I haven't access to Guvera to try some out. But I will follow some suggestions up on emusic once I've finished with ECM. Thanks Craig, and I look forward to the MiG series.
Eta; I don't know how I went so long with only one PJ Harvey release, and that one only White Chalk at that. I'm thinking now that I might just use Guvera to get them all.
Perfect for if you want a shoegaze album that's good, but not quite Loveless good, but you don't feel like shelling out the big bucks for mbv, which it seems is good, but not quite Loveless good...
And I mean just look at these guys:
Oh the '90's. I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.
But don't get me wrong this is good. Guvera had Mezcal Head too, but it disappeared. I wish I'd grabbed it. GnR's Use Your Illusion and Apetite for Destruction disappeared too; I wish I'd grabbed them too.
Only Dead Letter Office to go and I have all the IRS albums, but not all the extras and outtakes, and yes, I'm counting Dead Letter Office as an album because I don't know why.
I had a version of REM doing "Academy Fight Song" once that I taped off the radio. I should see if that's available as an extra or outtake on te Deluxe versions...

Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy - "The Language of Violence"
This works, too. Gets closer to how I think the documenary aspects of hip hop should sound. BC, $7.

Thanks for the reminder Kargatron - I downloaded a couple of weeks ago and hadn't got round to playing it fully

And I learned something new; those super high pitched sounds occur by her singing in the whistle register, which I had never heard of.
