Listening alphabetically has definite benefits. It narrows the pool of things to choose from (just artists beginning with a certain letter who happen to be on my ipod touch) and in doing so forces me to pay attention to things I might not have played or had neglected. Then after a day's listening there is considerable turnover on the ipod Touch for that letter. (I checked ahead and yes, I do have a good day's listening for X)
May have to interrupt the alphabet for a bit though - heading to the UK, Netherlands and Norway tomorrow for a fairly intense 2 weeks of lecturing.
The Twelve Days of Christmas by Hermoine Harvestman: 1970s compositions from a reclusive electronic musician (no, these are notall Hymns or seasonal songs, but lots of old synths). Currently free/NYOP.
Craig - 18+ is good and worth checking out, but I have to be in the right mood for it. Maybe start with mixtap3? I think maybe I liked that better than 2.
It really is a fascinating listen. As lead singer Laura Jane Grace really lays her soul bare regarding her struggles to come to terms with being transgender.
I am about half way through so far, and, as usual, some tracks I really like, whilst others have a lesser impression upon me! Difficult to describe in terms of genre, perhaps an emphasis upon lighter rock, but certainly not exclusively so

Against Me! - Transgender Dysphoria Blues

Next:
Warpaint - s/t
Craig
Harold Budd & Clive Wright - Little Windows
Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything
This is really good. As one would expect from a godspeed you! black emperor offshoot.

Sometimes Recommended for You at emusic does work!!
A cheerfully disconcerting combination of field noises and faux and real voices.
East India Youth - Total Strife Forever
Interesting Electronic Synth. $5 over at 7Digital
followed by
Worth nagging E Music to repair the tracks
I Break Horses - Chiaroscuro
Dang, this is good. They've developed a darker sound that really works.
Craig
Herb Ellis - Nothing But The Blues
Somehow this one doesn't do as much for me as I feel it ought to.
High Skies - Sounds of Earth
I think this might be the only album I discovered through its use in an app/game. (Osmos).
