@amc: If by speak, you mean reading straight forward texts on specialized subjects, I'm your man. If you mean listen song lyrics and interpret the imagery, I'm at a loss. I made an effort to learn Portuguese twelve years ago, when my wife was more interested in exploring her heritage, and I read a few books on decolonization. However, I have had little reason to cultivate this skill, and whenever I read something now, I do more triangulating from French (at least I still have a handle on the grammar).

    Apologies,

BT - that was Craig looking for translations; I'm happy just with the sounds.

    Youth Lagoon - Wonderous Bughouse

Surprised but happy that the Public library ordered a copy of this.
  • That's pretty hilarious choiceweb. I picked that very album up from my library last Sunday.

Nice new release from Tord Gustavsen Quartet - it was on the 'bestselling' wall in a CD store in a mall in Bergen. Enjoying it.
Good to be home. But really feeling the effects of two and a half weeks of constant travel and on-the-road-quality sleep (seven different beds). Quiet jazz and minimalist ambient are about all I can handle right now.

Tone Color - Today Will Die Tomorrow
I included Tone Color in my Best of 2013 list. The artist wrote me a thank you note then sent me a copy of this, which was waiting in the mail when I got back. Nice so far. French label - ta

Rosanne Cash - King's Record Shop

This article about her that was linked to in a review of her new album made me curious - glad I checked it out.

This Thing records are proud to release Andras Fox’s mini-LP Daydreaming. It’s a love letter to the MPC. Simple, dimple, instrumental beats from a world before side-chaining and pitched up vocal samples.

Nice enjoyable little beat tape. free.

As an editor, I am unduly bothered by that redundant Caro Emerald album title. Deleted scenes are more or less by definition "from the cutting room floor." I hope Ms Caro and her label will try to do better next time.
  • Doofy - Perhaps the "deleted scenes" were filmed at "the cutting room floor".
