Grant Green - Complete Quartets
Driving back from Chicago yesterday gave me a chance to stop by at Corner Records. Picked up this and a Charles Lloyd CD.
Heirs - Alchera - ". . .Drawing influence from Michael Gira and his Swans legacy, the sledgehammer riffs and industrial pummel of Godflesh, and continuing Stegeman's incense shrouded low-end incantations from his work with doom dealers Whitehorse, combined with Jackson's reverb-soaked noise, Alchera strips bare the needless excesses of post-rock and heavy metal in favour of something much more concise and affecting. A lurching, drugged-out specter - holding solace in one hand, and vengeance in the other. . ."
Thanks for the reminder on this one, BN. Pjusk have several works due out soon - their next full length on 12k, this one with Sleep Orchestra, and according to their blog another one "with Shao Yanpeng from Beijing, China"
NYOP. I'm not sure how to describe this or my last post; electronic hip-hoppy beats with lots of weird samples; experimental, beaty and weird; both really enjoyable.
Taking the day off today - something I do with an infrequency more than bordering on foolishness. Just spent an hour listening to this recording three times end to end. It's quite lovely. Writing a piece about it for MiG.
On hot rotation chez Brighternow and free from Denovali:

"Such potent guitar slingers as Robben Ford, Little Feats Paul Barrere and Joe Bonamassa make special guest appearances throughout...A program of affecting tunes that run the stylistic gamut from Stax flavored R&B to country honk to nasty funk and searing blues shuffles."

I was wrong about this album not sticking with me. It's utterly fantastic.

Lullatone - Plays Pajama Pop Pour Vous
Lucette Bourdin - Brushstrokes Echo
Following up a rec from someone. I remember liking Horse Heaven, also rec'd here, but this one just seems....anonymous?
Porya Hatami & Lee Anthony Norris - Every Day Feels Like A New Drug
Escalator by The Coal Men, streaming on Bandcamp. Americana with a very, very good rocking punch. One of the best releases in 2013, IMO.
This seems quite an appropriate CD for early morning listening!
