There's a new free De La mixtape; only except you have to BitTorrent to get it, which to me sounds like mainlining viruses. Does anybody here BitTorrent?
Yeah; a little while ago when we were talking about Deep Elm records, and I saw Walt Mink, and I thought "what was that Walt Mink album I used to have that had the girl with the gun on the cover..." But turns out it was Drop Nineteens; I think maybe they were both on Caroline together and had ads in Spin magazine together is how I got confused; so I had to go dig that up... It's good!
Mal Waldron Quintet - The Seagulls Of Kristiansund
Really like the title track. Whole album is $2.67 @ Amazon (or about the same at emusic on two-for-one boosters).
I'm really loving this. If you haven't listened to it do so. (See BN's post above for free download details.) Full review at Bird is the Worm. And Jonah is not paying me either tp promote his website!
It really is a marvellous album, defying genre descriptions. Everyone here should play it today!!!!! Thank you Jonah for starting the ball rolling in this week's Jazz Picks
Just in @ Mute/Soundcloud
A Little God In My Hands is the first track to be taken from Swans' forthcoming album 'To Be Kind' released on Mute on 12 May / 13 May on Young God Records (North America).
The album features several special guests: Little Annie, St. Vincent, Cold Specks and Bill Rieflin
Brad Mehldau Trio: Live
The booster sale got this down to $5 and into my cart. It's my favorite Mehldau release so far.
Incidentally, as proof that prices do sometimes change in good ways, before I went on hold at emusic around Christmas, Egress by The Green Kingdom was if I recall correctly $8+ (and therefore sat on my SFL); now it's $4.41. Maybe some folk (artists/labels) are finding the higher prices don't sell and learning the lesson.
My radio station is doing "March Music Madness" this week, wherein they set up a 64 artist bracket and each half hour artists are squaring off. Listeners vote for the winner online (no real direction on who is the 'winner'), and that winner advances to the next round. They are currently finishing the Sweet 16 and matched Bowie up with Prince. I refuse to partake in anything that would rank those two artists.
Nonetheless, it has me listening to Bowie and Prince. Currently:
Just finished a book manuscript that took 5 years. Feels good. Of course "finished" means can send to publisher and will then be into various rounds of edits etc. And after this amount of time with it I have no clue whether it is brilliant or terrible (though somewhere mid-range is a safe bet). And I have been ignoring email for a week to get it done and need to face the avalanche now. But it still feels good.
Well done GP. It puts my two chapters in a book about Key Stage 2 Geography well in the shade! After listening to a soccer commentary (my team won 4-1 amazingly) I'm now playing Kind of Blue, as the first CD I picked up

Cool.
Fresh mash-up of folk and country elements. Lots of reverence and referential musicianship.
