    About 'Silenced Electronics'

The recordings in this release are all of items that are usually powered by electricity - a Casio keyboard, a Korg midi controller, a Fender electric guitar, a digital camera, and an Xbox controller. All of these things lose most, or all, of their functionality when starved of power.

By close mic'ing, or attaching piezos, I have amplified the accidental sounds of the switches, sliders, clips, cases, and textures of the objects, and have presented familiar items in an unfamiliar way.

Recorded on the 4th and 5th of August, 2012, in Lye, West Midlands.

    Sonny Clark - Cool Struttin'
This makes me think of those Direct TV ads.
Mine would be "When you need to present at a conference you drive to Chicago. When you drive to Chicago you stop by Corner Records on the way home. When you stop by Corner Records you buy a Grant Green CD. When you buy a Grant Green CD you like the pianist. When you like the pianist you buy a Sonny Clark album."
Except mine doesn't end with "Don't buy a Sonny Clark album."

Prof, if you ever find yourself thinking the trumpet (or is it flugelhorn) on 'Cool Struttin' sounds good, it may lead you on to discover the great Art Farmer, which you would be unlikely to regret.

@Doofy, I do have at least one Art Farmer album from the Guvera haul (I think maybe "Portrait of..."), but confess I have not really focused on it properly. I'll dig it out. And I did actually notice that the brass wind thingy on Cool Struttin sounded good.

ETA, I'm glad a digital release of this is coming, because it's interesting, but 20 Euros is a bit much.

    - Sooooo gorgeous !

    And:
    300x300.jpg
    Musicians:
Kenneth Knudsen: keyboards, grooves, editing, Peter Kyed: grooves, Oliver Hoiness: guitars, Christian Skeel: computers & samples, Palle Mikkelborg: trumpets & fluegelhorn, Marilyn Mazur: drums, percussion, Peter Peter Schneidermann: occasional guitars, Fredrik Lundin: secret soprano & tenor saxophones, Peter Friis Nielsen: secret bass

"Since the launch of the Moog synthesizer in the early seventies, Knudsen has been the most significant Danish explorer of the tonal potential of electronic instruments – exclusively, or in combinations with traditional instruments."

ETA: @ Youtube: Kenneth Knudsen about the album "May Be" (Official Video) - Fascinating ! - (me thinks).
  • Really loving this spoken word album combining Vijay Iyer's deeply groovy settings to stories from African-American veterans, picked up from a Pi Recordings sale on Pi Day:
