My local HMV store have this in a sale. I should learn that when there is a sale item from an aged singer, there is a reason why it did not sell well and was put into a sale!!
Four young Twin Cities hip hop dudes (including my man Allan Kingdom) getting together for some great stuff. Picture is a direct link for the free download of the album.
Formed in 1989, IONA take their name from the small island off the west coast of Scotland. From the beginning, their aim has been to write spiritual, atmospheric, yet uplifting music that would stir the emotions, weaving complex patterns that echo the intricate knot work of the great Celtic artists. Often inspired by the great figures of the Celtic Golden Age such as Columba, Aidan, Brendan and Patrick, IONA's music is as timeless as the message that reaches out to us across the centuries. Read more @ http://www.iona.uk.com/iona Their music seems to draw from the collective memories of an entire race of people - Bob Darden - Billboard (USA) ... an exhilarating contemporary folk act, able to press traditional instruments convincingly into service alongside their electric counterparts ... rarely has the Celtic thing been given so many welcome twists, or played with such conviction. Q MAGAZINE IONA's latest album 'Another Realm' is out now!
This will be on my list of favorites for the year.
rostasi, you're killing me with those Black Saint box sets. I have the Oliver Lake in mind for Christmas, but what if it sells out by then? And now there's a Jimmy Lyons set coming out...
@ Doofy:
Listened to the Jimmy Lyons last week.
I'm pretty devoted to getting all of these and
so I have - except that the newer Gaslini has
been delayed for some reason, but there's the
11-disc version already, so there's plenty. This
weekend I hope to get at the newly re-released Ed Blackwell, Sun Ra and Steve Lacy sets that
are sitting here. Some people don't like the fact
that the packaging is pretty minimal, but that's
why they come so cheap. It's nice to be able
to replace the LPs with these compact sets.
Absolutely loving this despite the interviews in a small part of each track. This will be in my top ten for the year; like Jonah, without them it would have made my top three without a doubt. It can be streamed from Miguel Zenon's website.
Heh ! - Hans Olding translates to "Hans Old Man" (Danish)
Free from Nicolas Caloia's homepage (in 128 kbps and with Mediafire link, with some very aggressive popups)
Ratchet Orchestra Bundled
unreleased material 1994-2009
My first download after rejoining emu. Hyper modern sound collage; sounds like the future. Or at least sounds new. Tiny Mix Tapes loves it, so if you're not a TMT addict, ymmv. But I'm happy.
Oh also it's on bandcamp; link above; so you can stream it if you're interested.

Thanks for the reminder BN!
You really do need to read Jonah's review of this album, where you can also listen to one of the tracks. A selective quote:- Read the review to find out why not
