That's awesome that you're on that Wendell Harrison release. I still find time to listen to that one, too. There's a bunch of under-the-radar jazz recordings I scooped up on Amie St. Was just having some correspondence with someone about Taylor Haskins' "Wake Up Call," which I also discovered on Amie St. Man that was a fun site.
NP:
Marta Sanchez Quintet - "Partenika"
-Another album that sort of floated to the surface during my move. This one, though, was always in sight (kind of... y'see, I have these stacks that are part of this loosely organized system of listening to every damn jazz release that comes out during a year and well, I'm not sure why I'm still typing this). Anyways, it's really really good, better than I remember it being, and so I'm posting a rec on BitW tomorrow.
The Slow Meadow dude recommended this on Twitter. I can see why. I liked it well enough, then hit the fourth track and now I'm really liking it a lot. If this keeps up, I'm definitely buying it.
Nikki slays on "Monster". One of the best verses from the last decade (if not the best). Have you seen Adele rap along with it on James Cordan? It's awesome.
In honor of the announcement he has a new tape out this month:
This last winter I was unable to digitize my copy of Max Romeo's Reconstruction as I think my sons must have used it as a beer coaster or something. This is probably cheating but I was able to round up all the tracks except track 9 from The Max Romeo Catalog... series on Emusic. The recording quality sounds as good as the other albums i've digitized so it still has the same vibe as vinyl. It featured 2 great guitar players, Ernest Ranglin & Earl "Chinna" Smith.
GP - that's a long journey! Kiev is one of those places I've always wanted to go to...
The Band - Stage Fright. I'd forgotten how good this is, not having played it in a while. I've got a new iPod arriving today, with four times the memory of my old one, so I am going through iTunes trying to sort out the music I want on it a bit. I'm realising how I've maybe got too much music (if that is possible) in relation to the time I play it as so much has not been played in years if at all. The answer is not to reduce the music, just make more time to play it!
