Grateful Dead - 1977-05-08, Barton Hall, Cornell. "Official" release- 40 years ago today.
The Grateful Dead are a great example of how to make money by giving stuff away for free. I had three or four different versions of this concert already but I saw an official version and I really wanted it. The Grateful Dead are quickly becoming the band I've spent the most money on, overtaking earlier ones like Bob Dylan and Miles Davis and Neil Young, and it's all because I spend so much time with the free stuff that it makes the official releases look like something I really want.
"Some know him just as the long lost singer with the great Wall Of
Voodoo, others as one of the great unsung maverick geniuses of our
time." MELODY MAKER
"Absolutely Free will be 50
years old on May 26th, 2017. To commemorate I give you another in my
adhoc series of massive extensions of classic tracks. Elongations to
test your endurance and to celebrate albums to coincide with their
release date.
'Brown Shoes...' is an attack on suburban American
society: TV, greed and conformity. 50 years on, our 'modern' world is
little different from 1967 and in many respects vastly more greedy and
often embarrassingly conformist. Elected officials to this day continue
to abuse their position for sexual, financial and personal
gratification.
Frank Zappa was a visionary, a musical genius,
political satirist and vicious social commentator. He was an individual
that created art on his own terms regardless of how it would be
received. We all need to be a bit more like Frank."
Full stream of 'As The Light Dims' by The Greatest Hoax.
Taken from the album 'Expiration Compositions' forthcoming on Serein
(June 23rd, 2017). The album will be out on CD, Vinyl and digital
formats.
As The Light Dims was first premiered by self-titled magazine on May 9th, 2017.
“Expiration
Composition is not just an album about death; it reflects a sense of
happiness for one’s life. The subject is often heavy, but my intention
is to encourage listeners to appreciate their lives knowing they are
finite.” – Taylor Jordan (The Greatest Hoax)
