ETA: I was not at all sure from the samples whether I would really like this one, but then I spotted a used CD copy in a specialist metal record shop in Sydney (!) and took the plunge. Didn't listen to it immediately, perhaps still wondering if it had been a good buy. In fact I like it a whole lot on first listen. Great stuff, and great fun to occasionally still live the adventure of buying stuff on disk that I have not heard.
tmiwt [trust me I was there] 92 pt 7 by dj zinc. Not sure if this is a 1992 mix or a 1992 rave style mix but it's nice and reminds me a lot of this club I used to in 1992, as a freshman in college, just about exactly 25 years ago now. Available (with a lot of other late 80s and early 90s mixes from Zinc on SoundCloud.
Ps. This has been and is a terrific evening with Cluster & one of the reasons I could never leave Emusic. So much really interesting new/old music my ears have never heard. (and @49 cents/track) Aah, the joy of discoveries. Thanks to everyone for helping me find them.
A month or so back I started a smart playlist for stuff not played in the last 5 years, and have been having a lot of fun renewing my acquaintance with past gems. It was not the plan, but I have also discovered it's a great way to cull the library - if it has not been played in 5 years and I find myself not wanting to listen to it one more time, it's time to have a listen just to confirm the antipathy and then delete it; life is too short and it's not like I lack things I do want to listen to.
I think I am going to keep up the practice for a while. My library is at a size where it would take several years to listen to it all once, and I have been feeling for a while that I would rather listen to fewer things more often.
There are still plenty of keepers, though, and this Speck album (not the rock Speck that comes up on Google but the Discogs "Speck (6)") is one.
Thanks for the reminder. I've had them in the SFL since you first posted Ütopiya? I also wrote it down in my notebook last May when you posted Al-'An! and thankfully I haven't used up my booster buy yet. I thought I'd go back to the begin...
Well, like Germanprof I'm starting to cull out this new iTunes. I didn't miss too many free track of the day deals back when I started collecting mp3s and probably have a zillion SXSW tracks. Good place to start. I'm still working on the Es. I've wanted to hear this one since I got started
Long-time favorite. Gave it my site's #10 slot for the Best of 2012. I always try to give that slot to a darkhorse candidate, even to where maybe I think a bit more highly of a well-known album that got, instead, a #11-#14 slot... just as a statement for what Bird is the Worm is all about. But all these years later, and this particular #10 never once made me doubt that it truly earned it. So good.
