Well, I downloaded his first album because I couldn't believe how he got that picture of me and my shorter older brother on the cover. I still have a few of those suit jackets and most of them still have that stylish stretched button feature. Anyway, he tells some interesting stories. Ben Weaver
Thanks for pointing out Eleh. A great reminder for me to check out more Important Records while I still can. I do hope by them sticking with Emusic that they do have some expectation of getting paid. Björk
Huh. I have been doing some tagging by label. Thrill Jockey, Temporary Residence, and Kranky are sort of associated in my head because I was collecting them intensively at about the same time. Before I started I thought I had a good selection from all three. Turns out my brain only thinks that about Thrill Jockey because I have all the Tortoise albums - I was suprised to find very little else (some Mouse on Mars). Whereas I have a day and a half worth of Kranky albums, even after an earlier purge.
Paul Dresher Anybody’s Land: Songs from the American Trilogy - Slow Fire, Power Failure & Pioneer
These are studio recordings for a planned CD (but never
released - I honestly can't tell you why) of selected arias/songs from
the American Trilogy a set of three experimental music theater works-
Slow Fire (1985-88), Power Failure (1989) and Pioneer (1990). These
songs were meticulously recorded in my home studio from 1992 through
1995 using a Tascam 16tr. 1" reel to reel analog recorder and mixed to
DAT (with one exception, "Cortez" was taken from a live two track DAT
recording). All tracks recording were produced by Jay Cloidt.
While
I composed the music for all these works (with two songs contributed by
Terry Allen in Pioneer), they were all collaboratively-created and
performed by the following teams of artists:
Slow Fire - text and
performance (vocal and physical: Rinde Eckert; directed by Richard ET
White; Paul Dresher - electric guitar, keyboard and live tape loop
processing: Gene Reffkin - electronic drums, Jay Cloidt - sound design
& audio engineering; produced by Robin Kirck.
Power Failure:
Rinde Eckert - libretto, tenor; John Duykers - tenor, Thomasa Eckert -
soprano; Stephanie Friedman - mezzo soprano; directed by Richard ET
White and Tom O'Horgan; alto saxophone and bass clarinet - Ned
Rothenberg; keyboard - Miguel Frasconi; Gene Reffkin - drums; Paul
Dresher - electric bass, keyboard; Jay Cloidt - sound design & audio
engineering; produced by Robin Kirck.
Pioneer: Directed by Robert
Woodruff; text by Rinde Eckert, Terry Allen, Jo Harvey Allen and
historical sources (most of the songs excerpted here are transcriptions
of actual speeches or writings of the historical sources whose name is
attached to the song title); Rinde Eckert - tenor; Jo Harvey Allen,
speaking; John Duykers - tenor; Phil Aaberg - keyboard; Craig Fry -
violin; Gene Reffkin - electronic drums; Paul Dresher - electric guitar,
bass, keyboard; Jay Cloidt - sound design & audio engineering;
produced by Robin Kirck.
