A wave and waves by Michael Pisaro For one hundred percussion instruments.
The first live performance of 'A wave and waves' by Michael Pisaro (USA) for 100 percussionists, presented by Speak Percussion and Melbourne Festival 2015. In this rare, deep listening experience the audience sits among the performers to experience the music as if part of an ocean of sound. Colossal percussive waves are created by layers of imperceptibly soft sounds— sandpaper on stone, seeds falling on glass, bowed bells—forming a textural landscape bristling with detail.
A wave and waves is in two parts. The first part is a single wave, lasting 35’00” (sounds begin at 1:00) and the second part is 100 (smaller) waves, having the same total duration. There is a silence of 4 minutes between the two parts. All sounds are extremely soft. They are like single grains of sand (or molecules of water), which, by being combined with other like sounds form larger patterns and collections.
This one is a little darker than usual - maybe that's what Soberanes brings? - but as usual I find myself drawn by the reflective precision and purity of the sounds Darren McClure conjures.
To mark Finders Keepers Record’s 50th release label heads Andy Votel and
Doug Shipton return to where it all began in 2005 with a long overdue
return to Jean-Claude Vannier’s vaults!
Electro Rapide is a collection of rare and unreleased archive material
from the studio archives of legendary French orchestral pop composer
Jean-Claude Vannier. Taken from the period before and during his revered
creative relationship with Serge Gainsbourg (reaching their halcyon
with 1971’s Histoire De Melody Nelson) these tracks reveal a rare
glimpse of Vannier’s self-initiated instrumental projects that were
crowbarred between an airtight studio diary as one of France’s most in
demand arrangers and composers of the post Mai-68 generation. . . . .
Swarm created with Kyma. Brass Fairlight sample provided by Ben Phenix. Original provided free sample set by sonicbloom.net. @rolandkuit - Kyma
Project: The violoncello sound is processed in the spectral domain in
Kyma. This abstraction is modulated by the violoncello's amplitude and
frequency. Balázs Adorján - Violoncello Roland Kuit - Kyma
Three great prog-rock albums from Spain, mid 70s, all still on eMu. Here are reviews of Coses Nostres on the Prog Archive, eMu has the album for a mere $2.99; en directe is 99 cents (three songs, live); Sentiments is also $2.99.
Imagine, if you will, a foreboding homemade electro-acoustic, new age, synth driven, proto-techno, imaginary world music Portastudio soundtrack for a Polish-made animated fantasy based on a Finnish modern folk tale and created for German and Austrian TV, composed in 1982 by two politically driven post-punk theatre performers from a shared house in Leeds! . . . .
