Thanks to @Muggsy for introducing us to the band Death after he saw them live back in 2016. Listened today to their album “…For The Whole World To See”
I bought quite a few of these at some point, maybe the last time you reached this part of the alphabet @confused ? I must dig them out. In the meantime two of my purchases from yesterday.
Fly or Die Fly or Die Fly or Die ((world war))
Still missing Jaimie Branch
Not cheap, but then it is three cds worth of live material from classy players.
@djh - I'm pretty sure at one time he listed all his albums for a NYOP special but I couldn't find the link here. I downloaded the bulk of his albums Dec. 9th & 10th, 2018.
Alva Noto - Xerrox 1-4, Unitxt/Univrs/Uniqav, For 2.
It's quite a while since I spent time with Alva Noto. I started last night and couldn't stop - the break has been refreshing. These particular album series strike me afresh as magisterial. He can take sound that is basically processed noise and make it sound utterly and inviolably inevitable. Alien and intimate. Still hoping he will make it to Xerrox 5 (though #1 and 2 remain my favorites).
I see he has a couple of new albums out this spring that did not hear about (where is Brighternow when you need him?) - film and stage scores. But I've spent my budget for this month.
For the first time ever a jazz based band won the prestigious Mercury Prize Album of the Year this week. Available on Bandcamp. This is a true recognition for the growing jazz/afrobeat/hip-hop scene in the UK
