  • Muggsy,
It's not you. I noticed the same thing. This evening due to the rapid number of albums being released I figured I need to figure out how to display more than just the default 25 or whatever is normally listed:
    http://amiestreet.com/browse/new?filter=none&perPage=100

Change the last # to whatever # you want to see displayed per page.
  • Dropped some recs on Ike & Tina Turner (still free at the moment)
    Nice free XMAS album here
  • A couple of modern classics:

    Mulatu Astatke- Inspiration Information 3

    No Hassle-Tosca

Both of them have 150+ ratings on eMu with an average of 4 stars.

Horace Andy , but I'm outta free downloads
edit - damn, previews sound good.
  • No second account in wife's/girlfiend's/child's/dog's name?

You guys have GOT to grab Build Me This, by Joshua James. It got lost in the glut of today's massive drop. It is my favorite album of the year. Paste Magazine loves it too (I believe it scored 92 out of 100). It's still crazy cheap because no one noticed it in the new releases. To quote myself from the other board, I highly recommend this album to ANYONE who loves folk, Americana, acoustic guitar, soaring vocals, or beauty. It's amazing.

  • Hadn't thought of that. Seven cats and five dogs live here, with a staff of five humans to attend to them. But what'll I do if the cats end up with more street cred than I have?
  • Wow! Thanks, Dt

Other stuff I'm happy I got tonight:

The brand new You & Yourn.

    The brand new Elms album.

The brand new I Love You album.

Let it Beep, by Royal Bangs.

Three Josh Kelley albums (I believe I paid a grand total of $0.18).

And two albums by K's Choice (that 90s band that did that "Not an Addict" song).

(There were definitely some jewels in today's drop, if you're willing to look. Makes up for this week's lame Tuesday drop.)

  • frogk... Thanks! I gotta get better at thinking around corners.
DayTrip... that jumped quick! was $1.17 when I 1st looked. Played about 20 seconds of samples and then clicked buy and it was up to $1.69. Still cheap. Thanks!

You're welcome, Dr. and luddite. I cannot stop gushing about the album. It's incredible. It has been the biggest surprise of the year. I already knew I love Paste, but I love them even more for introducing me to Joshua James.

  • Yeah, I'd say about every 15th or 20th album is worth checking out. Not all of them are free, but if you can get a good album for around $2 Amie money. it is pretty close to free.

I think I've picked up about 15-16 albums in the last 10 hours and only spent around $20 Amie money (which means between $7-$8 real money). Top drawer stuff too. I'm hoping that it stops coming for a while, since it's time for bed.

I'm a bit disappointed--I posted on this here last night, but my post doesn't seem to have taken. Anyway, among last night's drop was a bunch of Hydra Head. Pyramids with Nadja is gorgeous (also among the mix were Nihil (a bit much for me) and some minimalist metal from Jodis). A new album also came out from retro-country bluesman Samuel James. All of them are still under 20 cents per tracks (Jodis is still free).

It turned out to be a good week for alternative metal, with Nadja, Jesu and Pelican all having releases.
  • Not free but cheap port-royal - dying in time. One of the best ambient electronic albums of the last few years.

For about less than a day ago, there was some very good vintage blues compilations in the news section, they seem to be removed now but my links still work:
    Vol 1 - Vol 2 - Vol 3 - Vol 4 - Vol 6
    - Most of them are still free.
  • Is it Trick Or Treat over there at the St. or what? The albums have been dropping like flies, and I passed my free limit in just over an hour. I think those suits got tired of Frogkopf Rec'ing everything and chasing their Street Cred. It's just been a lot of new stuff real sudden like.
  • Thanks all for positing recs on here. Just like most anyone else I enjoy cheap or free tracks, but don't like spending much time on amiestreet sifting through the new stuff. Yep, I'm lazy like that.
  • There is a method to my madness. By RECing some of the more popular albums, I make enough cred on them to effectively pay for them.

A good Wilson Pickett inspired album by Sugar Billy (1976). Recommended for fans of the Daptone label.
  • Lacewing (1970). Samples sound like there's some tape damage, but I got it anyway. If I had any recs left I'd put one on Time to Go.
  • Thanks for posting the links here. I grabbed the Tosca and the reggae comp. I just joined amiestreet and trying to figure it out. Seems like you guys have some secret for finding the jewels (e.g. Nigeria 70). I haven't been able to find anything good like that in the New Releases page. Clicking on "See more just added albums..." seems more like a list of crap that doesn't really show everything. I couldn't find the Nigeria 70 or reggae comp from it. Am I blind and missing it? Or do you have a special way of getting the real list of all new releases? Feeds? Fanning?
  • Lotta good recs here that I would have missed otherwise. I can't believe I actually got the Tosca for free. Also snagged Sugar Billy - cool to hear the original of that Joss Stone cover. Also grabbed stuff from Jodis, The Flys, Ted Gioia, Josh Kelley, Rubik, T.H. White, and Boozoo Bajou. Between that and all the Fela from a couple days ago it'll take me 'til the end of the year to catch up with my Amie d/ls...

Just noticed the Dimitri rec... damn 2 discs of retro disco kitsch for 30 cents? I am sooooo there.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Sarah Vaughan discs?
  • Thanks for pointing out The Flys, thom. I'd missed that when it went by and love that song. Still free too!

  • I had that CD at one point, there were 1 or 2 other good songs on it but nothing came close to that hit. Glad I could help.
  • There's actually a quirk with Amie Street's site where once something falls off the end of the primary new releases page, it gets harder to find because it doesn't show up on any of the other pages for several hours. It will usually show up under the artists name, but unless you already know what you're looking for, it's a crap shoot.

The work around is to bookmark the following page:

    http://amiestreet.com/browse/new?perPage=100&page=1

You can manually change the perPage # and page # as needed. (if you're on a slower connection, it might be good view 50 per page so that the pages load faster). One these big drops, you may have to search 3-4 pages to find what had dropped in the last 12 hours.
