I finished the Feelies first album this morning. All the original tracks are there, might be missing a couple reissue tracks. Credits permitting, I'll try to pick up a couple more IRS things.
Moving on to Nat King Cole Trio, Instrumental Classics. You will need to go here to get the last track.
Nat was on Capitol, so there is a ton of stuff there. Lots of Xmas and greatest hits collections to wade through. Of course the Trio "Vocal Classics" are indispensible...I have that on disc, haven't checked the tracks. There is also a "Complete Capitol Transcriptions" set of Trio radio broadcasts.
Yes, it's still a great September (though it's raining outside for the first time in almost a month). And after making one request (Document), the wife gave over her remaining dl's for the day. So:
Larry Young, Mother Ship
Grant Green, Talkin' About (with Young and Elvin Jones on the side)
Grachan Moncur III, Evolution (only two tracks available, but I took them anyway)
Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn, Shabhaaz
Ravi Shankar, Improvisations
Gopal Shankar Misra, Out of Stillness
Rahul Sharma, Music of the Himalayas
It's hard to tell what's going to happen. Certain artists (Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Goldfrapp and Richard Hawley) will stay under EMI's control and it sounds like EMI is also going to license most of the back catalog. My guess is that this will actually only effect releases going forward.
This is quite a bit different from what most everyone else here is downloading, but I wanted to point out that I discovered that six of Electric Wizard's albums are included in the September Promo. Their releases are on labels that must somehow be a part of EMI: Tanglade Ltd and Abstract Sounds Ltd. Anyone that might be into doom/stoner/sludge metal, have at it. There are more artists such as Opeth on the same labels included in the September Promo.
Found this album by accident - if you enter it in Search it didn't show up - Miles Davis The Blue Note and Capitol Recordings - some of the songs are listed as Cannonball Adderly, some from other albums - link .
The songs listed as 'Cannonball Adderley' are 5 of the 6 tracks from his album "Somethin' Else", on which Miles Davis appeared as a side man. There is a 1999 Digital Remaster version of "Somethin' Else" also available.
If I only had a brain...I could remember who I found yesterday on Sugar Hill covered by the promo, and I've blown my downloads for the day so I can't check for sure on this but this Albert Lee album is also on Sugar Hill - Heartbreak Hill .
Edit- I see now that if you can stream it on the Promo channel it's in the promo, having tried a couple that aren't streamable there. Too bad Decca isn't included, although it's way too late in the month to even find anything else. But gotta try.
I might as well confess I was looking at Ten Years After because I saw my "Essential..." CD was on Chrysalis which generally has been promo, not that I actually felt a need for more Ten Years After. I was disappointed not to find Procol Harum's mid career albums that I thought were on Chrysalis on the site....got those cassettes somewhere.
@cafreema, if you can find some [deep breath] Black Uhuru, Horace Andy, The Lovejoys, Junior Delahaye, Sugar Minott, Tenor Saw, Beres Hammond, Culture, Gregory Isaacs, or Jah Mason you'd be off to a solid start.
I would check out the albums on this page, since they are part of promo.
Virgin Frontline was an attempt to compete with Island in the late 70s, and was routinely of high quality. Most of the albums are 10 tracks, so you will be able to get 2 a day.
More specifically, here's two albums whose combined totals equals 21 tracks!
Gladiators Trenchtown Mix Up - probably the closest thing to Bob Marley and the Wailers you will find, but they are not imitators they were close competitors in the old day. AMG gives this 5 stars and a check mark!
Prince Far-I -Message from the King - has a thunderous gravelly voice (kinda like a reggae version of Howlin' Wolf). Heavy, heavy stuff - AMG gives this 4.5 stars.
Once again I succumbed to peer pressure and stayed up until 1am trying to spend my 21+ credits (Kraftwerk - Autobahn, Harold Budd & Brian Eno - Ambient 2/The Plateux of Mirror, Julian Bream - J.S. Bach: Lute Works, and working on Michael Nyman - Prospero's Books).
I hate myself.
Well, I'm baaaack again at Guvera wasting time right along with ya! January my round rosy ass...it only took 2 days!
I told them 5 brands I love to get 10 more free DLs.
There are more artists such as Opeth on the same labels included in the September Promo.
Opeth? Opeth? Oh, thanks a lot. I will be up later that I thought.
Same here, no refresh. Got a nice basketful of goodies - have to wait to see if these artists show up on eMu on the next continental shift, fill in a few holes. Really did get some music here that I'm excited to listen to - which is a good thing. More listening, less hunting.........I guess that's OK. Or maybe just OK. Or maybe just ok.
Indeed, difficult to argue I didn't get the most music + fun out of that! After the first day, I don't think I left a single credit on the table. I now have a "New Blue Note" playlist including approx 300 songs/40 albums. If Guvera was trying to get my attention, they certainly succeeded.
For me, Real World was a big winner. The promotion did a great job of reconnecting consumers with the EMI brand. Blue Note was an obvious source of great records, but I feel I have a lot of what I wanted. I remember being disenchanted with Real World 10-15 years ago. Their records tended to be generic, and they became more difficult to find in stores. But now I found recent recordings that I really want--I'm even considering going outside Guvera to get them.
ETA: I also have renewed my desire for Central Asian music!
i'm sorry i signed on so late but grateful to have downloaded what I did-mostly stuff i had on vinyl waiting to be converted.
I was hoping to get the "this was" reissue by Tull that BigD mentioned.....oh well.
did get free music the old fashion way yesterday: a co-worker overheard me and another guy talking about jazz ,and out of nowhere he comes and drops about 300 CDs into our laps and tells us to take as long as we like recording them. took me about 30 minutes to dump 6 Sun Ra, 1 Eric Dolphy, 1 Sonny Clark, 1 Wayne Shorter, 1 Bobby Hutcherson and a Chet Baker onto my work pc. popping them on a usb stick now.......
Can't complain at all. It was a fantastic promo. I'm just annoyed at myself for missing a track yesterday and not completing Ben Harper's Lifeline. Now I have to wait for the last one. Although I still hold out hope that some more credits will appear today. It wouldn't be the first time there was a delay.
Overall it was a blast, and I'm going to have a lot of fun listening to all of my Kylie Minogue.

This month isn't going to last long enough.
Somethin' Else
Edit- I see now that if you can stream it on the Promo channel it's in the promo, having tried a couple that aren't streamable there. Too bad Decca isn't included, although it's way too late in the month to even find anything else. But gotta try.

Craig
Wayne Shorter- Super Nova, album seach misses three tracks, Super Nova, Sweet Pea, and Water Babies
Couldn't find the last two Blue Note albums from Wayne Shorter: Moto Grosso Feio and Odyssey of Iska
Kenny Dorham - The Complete 'Round About Midnight At The Cafe (1962), 17 tracks live and smoking
Kenny Dorham - Una Mas,missing track three, Sao Paulo (1963)
Kenny Dorham - Whistle Stop (1961)
Kenny Dorham - Trompeta Toccata (1964)
This is criminal.
There's a Mosaic Select box set that is pretty much all the OOP 70s stuff on three discs. Well worth the $40 I paid for it.

But I wasn't done yet!
