Oh, duh!, I kept looking for the new deluxe Station To Station - it would be just too cool but it is EMI/Virgin after all, but, duh, today is the 21st not the 28th. oh, merde!
Complet Communion and Symphony for Improvisers by Don Cherry are each two tracks - one is well rated by allmusic, and one is well rated by Penguin; can't remember which is which.
If anybody needs some Gary Moore the earlier albums from his blues revival are in the promo, although some later ones aren't( If you've seen them on eMu they're not promo) - the listings are totally bewildering outside of After Hours, because a load are listed as AfterHours/Still Got The Blues/Blues Alive for some reason - not helpful because Blues Alive was a live album of tracks from After Hours & Still Got The Blues. The compilation Best of the Blues is also under the Promo which contains both studio and live tracks which might be found on any of the other 3 albums.
I only belabor this because these are his finest blues albums, and with a little care/big pain in the ass you could get some nice stuff.
Fall by Norah Jones is also covered by the promo.
Also many Robin Trower albums - Best of, Twice Removed From Yesterday, Bridge of Sighs, BBC in Concert, BLT(Bruce, Laing,&Trower)- are covered by the promo. Did not try more recent albums but they probably are too.
I'm feeling some pressure to rearrange my whole life to listen to all this music. If this is really a September promotion - as in everyday this fantasy continues - it may very well be a year before I listen one time through all of these.
BigD, thanks for the tip on Gary Moore. I got After Hours and Still Got the Blues, wasn't too tough to sort them out. I'd also recommend Blues for Greeny, his tribute to Peter Green, if anybody doesn't have it -- it's also included in the promo.
Tonight I got a bunch of early Bud Powell, Surfer Girl, and Blakey's Indestrucible.
For anybody interested in getting jazz collections like Bud Powell stuff, where it's hard to make head or tail of what belongs where, Jazz Discography Project is very useful. (Actually it could probably be useful for lots of things).
This morning's meanderings through promo - Little Games by The Yardbirds, not exactly their primo album but has some live cuts my CD didn't, and Jeff Beck's Beckola and a Truth/beckola combo, which are primo.
Yow, Lightnin' Hopkins The Complete Aladdin Recordings.
T-Bone Walker The Complete Capitol/Black&White Recordings
Albert Collins - Collins Mix, and Iceman. Not the Iceman's best albums, with all due deference, from late in life.
The Best of Freddie King-The Shelter Years, also Getting Ready, and The Texas Cannonball, and Woman Across the River(all of which were on Shelter)
Getting deep into the Blue Note catalog, here's King Kong: Jean Luc Ponty Plays The Music Of Frank Zappa by Jean-Luc Ponty, in collaboration with Zappa himself. You will have to do a title search to get the song "Twenty Small Cigars."
Would that Blue Note had come out with more whacked-out projects like this as the 70s proceeded! Btw, here is the Blue Note discography on jazzdisco.org, mentioned by amclark. I've also made good use of the Prestige discography in checking out jazz stuff to get on eMu.
BT: I saw that one too but I'm not sure if it's the right version. What scares me is it doesn't say "Rudy Van Gelder Edition 1999 Digital Remaster", like all the other tracks from that album.
I suppose buying it on Amazon for $0.99 is a small price to pay.
Doofy, thanks for King Kong - one of my most unexpected concert pleasures was being taken to the Felt Forum for Zappa and a 20 piece orchestra - all instrumental- sublime.
Fans of Strut/Jazzman style comps might want to peruse the Stateside label stuff: http://www.statesiderecords.com/ Most of these will eat through your credits, but, they release some great comps of soul, R&B, disco, etc. from the EMI vaults.
This one is not a Sept promo, and it makes me appreciate the tagging on the BlueNotes. This thing was a mess, oriental characters for track and genre... Things are Getting Better (1958), with Milt Jackson
It will take you a day and a half's worth of tracks, but Herbie Nichols Complete Blue Note Recordings is essential. There are 48 tracks - 46 listed here and two more that are easy to find.
Funny you should say that frogkopf - I just finished getting all 30 master takes, plus one alternate. (I figure that way if it craps out at least I got all the masters).
Not that I know of. This is a great time to join. Lots of free credits given every day. My only tip: Download non-EMI tracks first. The 31 they've been giving every day only work on EMI, so use the first 10-20 on something else.
Unless you don't feel the need to put that much thought into it. You'll have fun either way.
I've already been given so many free tracks this month that I got every EMI album I could imagine wanting.

I feel less guilty if the people I sign up are at least real. Perhaps my daughter is next....!

I need more help: I'm trying to complete Hank Mobley's Soul Station and I can't seem to find "Remember." Has anyone had any luck finding this track?
I suppose buying it on Amazon for $0.99 is a small price to pay.

thom - Who are you spiting?

I'll throw in that yesterday I grabbed the s/t album from Television. It's not one of the first two classic ones, but it's something.
I also got Magazine's Real Life. All of that album is available, but most of it needs to be searched for by track.
Craig
For now, I am following ac2's Herbie Nichols stragedy, looking forward to that one.
Disappointed to find they don't have The Swamp Gas Gang.
Dr. John, Mercernary
