@muggsy - it's not weird that you got the credits and your wife didn't. The channel is sponsored by a men's store, so it makes sense that a guy would get them while a woman wouldn't - Guvera's main selling point is targeted marketing via the info they collected on the demographics. Although pipher's wife's account got the credits, I wouldn't be surprised to find that the demographic info that was entered into that account was for a man too.
I too got the same 2 credits, but my girlfriend's account didn't .
Who are you who is so wise in the ways of science?
Actually, that makes sense, except that I filled out all the info for both accounts, and I don't think I bothered to change anything except the e-mail address. I call it her account, but she has never heard of Guvera and I think both accounts are in my name. I could be wrong though.
My guess is that they have x amount of total credits per channel, and distribute way more than that number, pulling the unused ones once the total has been used up.
I've seen some credits persist for weeks, and others disappear in a day. Usually, the bigger the sponsoring company is, the longer they stick around.
I love you, Guvera. I just got, courtesy of Geico, the 13:06 I'll Remember April from the album The Charles Mingus Quartet plus Max Roach. See 68's Thawts thread for all the reasons this has made my day in a small way. I couldn't freakin' buy this track on its own elsewhere and I just got it for free. That's buuuuteeefulll!

That's the error message I got when trying to download a track from the Geico credits.
What, are they using limewire?
OK gang, after reading about all the great stuff people are getting on Guvera on this and other threads I finally tried to sign up again (I believe I tried early on and was foiled because they were limiting "memberships" and then tried later but I thought you had to be in Australia - maybe I'm hallucinating on that one!). In any case, it let me in today. Hooray! So, any tips/warnings/insight about the site for a newcomer now that some of you have been using the site for months? Thanks!
1. If you have credits, use them that day (don't count on them being there tomorrow). I think it makes sense to look if you have credits in the morning, in the late afternoon (4pm EST/EDT) and in the evening (8pm EST/EDT). If there's another EMI-like promotion, use up all the credits first thing in the morning, as they might be revised later in the day.
2. Check that all the songs from an album are there. If they aren't, see if the songs are on a compilation. Expect that some albums will be incomplete. Use allmusic and discogs to see what's supposed to be on an album and if that includes bonus material. Check the time lengths of each song.
3. Keep checklists of what you want to download. In most cases, you will get an album over several days or weeks, song by song, rather than all in one shot.
4. Don't get too far ahead with multiple downloads. You'll lose track of where you are and waist credits.
5. Think in terms of the number of days it will take to dl an album. Something with fewer tracks might be a more cost effective download that something with many tracks.
6. Download album art separately.
7. Be prepared to fix tags, especially if the songs from an album come from different sources.
I've lost 7-8 credits since joining, due to various issues. Yesterday I lost two songs halfway through the download because it lost connection with the server.
Good luck on getting credited. I think I tried to contact them the first time to no avail, now I don't even bother.
Does anyone else have a Geico "Ultimate Road Trip Playlist" Channel with 2 unusable credits in it? By unusable, I mean I don't see them listed as a channel when I find something I want to download. I had clicked on Channels at the top of the page, and was going through each of my channels to see if there was anything new, and I noticed these 2 under Geico, but I can't figure out what I can use them on.
pipher - I noticed the same thing, but you can use 'em - just only with the songs that come up when you click on the channel. To me that's almost useless.
frog - great advice for Guvera to hear too. If they want to be serious in their endeavor, they need a download manager and to clean up their database. Seriously, it can't be that hard if I can do it with MonkeyMedia.
will tagging software help me fix track orders in itunes? no matter how i try i can't get them to stay in order. anyone know a free pc software that can help? (and don't try to get me off itunes because i use ipods - unless there's something else that can load ipods.)
Craig's suggestion #1 is a real good place to start. No matter who I've downloaded from, when I download one track at a time, sometimes I need to go into iTunes "Get Info" on a particular song and fill in Disc "1" of "1" to get the database to bunch the individual tracks as an album.
@amclark2
Craig's #1 is the main culprit.
Also check what column you have itunes sorting on. Sometimes I click on a different column without meaning to by mistake.
And if you are talking about them going onto your ipod in the correct order, playlist right-click > Copy to Play Order is what does it.
@pipher
I did have 2 unusable Geico credits yesterday, but today they're gone.
Last month some EMI credits wouldn't work on a certain album, either.
I reported the track that ate 3 credits and got an auto-reply. Hmmmf.
It's going to be interesting...they've got me checking every day to make sure I don't miss anything. But they can't expect people to keep coming back unless they thow 'em a bone once in a while.
edit: Notwithstanding the hundreds of free tracks over the last few weeks :forehead slap:
You're only as good as your last performance, they say. They also say, what have you done for me lately - since like Oct. 1 .
I'd happily jump through some hoops were additional hoops to be provided.
Big black chicken, leave us an egg......something........
Yeah, they are losing marketing steam by the minute.
Just as a lark, I started a Guvera users group just to see who it would attract. A few views, but no other members, yet.
I also did some googling on Guvera tips & tricks and found, oddly enough, a Christian group who were sharing their love of that genre and liking that Guvera had what they wanted.
Well. I'm still pissed I didn't sign up earlier, and that I missed Amie Street as well.
(edit: I got unemployed right around when Amie St was launched, andtried to stay way from temptations. Didn't realize so may things were free until too late)
Thanks for the tips Bad Thoughts. I signed up, lost a few "learning curve" credits, but was able to download a Kraftwerk album and start on a Can album (apparently I was in a krautrock mood this weekend). I'm sure now that I've finally signed up they'll go out of business(!), but I'll take what I can get. 'Cause it's free, and stuff...
How long does the obsession to check the site constantly for new credits last?

I changed all my preferences to golf and other manly things, signed out, and still nuttin'.
I got a handful this morning, same as mojo. I actually think I have clicked through on those ads before, for whatever that's worth.

Only 4 tracks!
That's the error message I got when trying to download a track from the Geico credits.

1) Do some, but not all, of the tracks have a disc number listed? If so they will not properly sort with the tracks that do not.
2) Do some, but not all, of the tracks have an "Album Artist" listed? If so, same thing. They won't properly sort with the tracks that do not.
If you correct these two things, that should take care of the problem.
