  • The only difference I've noticed is that it costs 2.29 each to download these tracks. Maybe certain labels charge more.
  • I got hit with that, too. Was trying to download Lenny Kravitz's Are You Gonna Go My Way? for my wife - it was the only one of his not available during the EMI giveaway. Tracks came up as $2.29 to buy, and I used up all of the credits on 2 accounts and still didn't complete it. Kind of annoying, especially since I didn't see anything that said it would cost 2 credits.

OK friends, what am I doing wrong.

Last time (I think I had six downloads) I managed to turn that magically into 2 songs (due to computer problems and my ineptitude in one case). I just went in and had the 11 credits most here seem to have, but was only able to download 6 songs. A channel would show 2 credits, I would download one song, and then the channel would show zero credits and would not let me download anymore. Is it me, or some glitch with guvera?

EDIT - Just noticed the same issue above. Anyone figure out what's going on?
  • What were you downloading? It might be label or album specific.

I just downloaded the Jammin' with Gene album mentioned above and the songs cost me 1 credit each, although most of the songs are over 10 minutes.

Looks like Guvera has "repriced" some tracks that are longer than ten minutes. A couple long DG tracks cost 2 credits each. However, long Orb tracks cost one each.

Another thought: Guvera now seems to have a system whereby you can mark two or more tracks for download. I tried that (two tracks), got charged for two, but only received one (from an account that had exactly two to spend). My guess is the first of the two tracks I selected gobbled up the two available credits and the other was SOL.
  • The Don Ellis album I downloaded had 2 10+ minute tracks - both were just 1 credit. 3 of the Eberhard Weber were ove the 10 minute mark - still 1 credit each. Perhaps some labels have asked for differentiated pricing - maybe Emusic is not alone in this...

I downloaded some tracks from a Kraftwerk album (Trans Europe). First track was 0:55 - which I downloaded from the channel with one credit, others were 2 to 9 minutes long - which I downloaded from the 2 credit channels, so ended up with one song per channel. So, for 11 credits I got 6 tracks.

I tried the same thing Bartho mentions above on one of the download attempts and had the same experience.

It's still free, so I'm not complaining. It would just be nice to know the "rules" for future download planning.
  • That might 'splain the 2-credit channels. The price on some tracks went up, but they gave you an extra credit to cover it. I also DL'd jazz albums with long tracks, none were 2 credits.
  • I got 12 tracks for 11 credits, so it's not across the board. I still think it's a glitch.

  • The ones I got hit with 2 credits said $2.29.
I think before everything was showing as $1.59?
What a pain in the patootie, only because I don't see a way to find the price BEFORE trying to download.
  • Check your account - I'm showing two more credits today. They are on different channels, so we'll see what happens whan I try to download something.
  • No new credits for me.
  • 1 credit in each of 2 accounts (nothing in the others). Interestingly, the Lenny Kravitz tracks were now marked as "only $1.59" and I was able to d/l the last 2 for 1 credit each.
  • Nothing for me.

    Craig
  • Which channels had new credits available? I'm not seeing any either, on two separate accounts with significantly different channels.
  • OK, I think I figured out what is going on. When I went in to download this evening, I actually had 5 credits.

I'm sure you all follow my life closely through my occasional posts here, so I probably don't need to remind you that recently when I had 11 credit like everyone else I was only able to download 6 tracks. There was speculation that some tracks now cost two credits or that there was some other glitch. I believe the five credits I had today are the replacement for the five I never got to use last time. I'm guessing it was a mistake that two credits were taken away for one download last time and they must have fixed it. I never complained to the Big G, because I assumed it wasn't worth my time, but perhaps enough other people encountered the same issue and did complain.

Or maybe I just got lucky and got five new credits, but I think these are replacements. And I think we can all agree - I deserved them! Anyone else who had the same issue able to confirm these are replacements?

    :-)
  • Nice find ddd - thanks! Two more...
  • Thanks indeed. You can use 1 of those credits to get the whole of Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians, btw.
  • Thank you to both ddd and Doofy!

  • @Rudie - It's possible that you got lucky and they decided to replace your credits. But I got hit with the 2 credits flim flam on 2 different accounts while downloading a total of 10 songs. Only got a credit each. If nothing else, Guvera sure keeps us guessing.
  • Surprised to find 2 from "Gilt Man" this evening.
  • As was I - two more chips off the monolith that is the UFO Official Bootleg Box Set - have all of Roundhouse '76 and '77, and chipping at the Record Plant and Cleveland (Hello, Cleveland!) sets.
  • Gilt Man has really got my number with that "Shop Like a Guy" line. The only thing that would make it even closer is, "Shop Like a Guy Who Hates Spending Money Even More Than He Hates Going Shopping."

Yay! 2 from Gilt Group, and another 2 from Gilt Man. This will finish out Morcheeba's Blood Like Lemonade and leave 2 to start on something else.

Rudie, I am not sure mine got replaced, or I just got disgusted and waited long enough that new ones showed up. DIsgusted at the credits not working correctly, and trying to narrow down a search on some David Bowie stuff - of which there are 20+ pages.

P.S. The tags on the Morcheeba tracks are a joke. If you get that one, plan on spending some time editing them more than usual. I'm not complaining, just saying.
  • After grabbing some more XTC, I decided to check for some tracks that had previously been missing. Today I found:

Air - Love 2 - "Do The Joy"
    Can - Ege Bamyasi - "Vitamin C"
John Coltrane - The Ultimate Blue Train - "Lazy Bird"
Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure - "Strictly Confidential", "Grey Lagoon", and "For Your Pleasure"
The Stranglers - La Folie - "Golden Brown"

Most of my other d/ls that were missing tracks are gone all together, most likely due to licensing issues (such as Kraftwerk's Computer World remaster which is not supposed to be sold separate from the set).
  • Huh. I'd only found "Grey Lagoon" to be missing off that Roxy album. Too bad I'd already grabbed it and "Vitamin C" off Amazon.

I'll have to check out some of the ones I was missing on other albums. Thanks!

  • Looking back, I think I DL'd the wrong tracks from that Morcheeba album (Blood Like Lemonade). Guvera only had that one album from Morcheeba, but all the tracks were listed 2-3 times. I grabbed the last ones because it seemed easier to wrok backwards. Now I wonder if the beginning ones were tagged correctly.

Anyone else noticed that? There are multiples of the same track? On some of the Bowie tracks I DL'd, I picked the ones listed as being from an album (as opposed to a greaes hits compilation or a live set) but when it DL'd, the tags said they were from a compilation.

thom, your post gives me hope they will get the missing Morcheeba track, eventually. That and Bowie's "Let's Dance" were both missing the final track. Annoying, but hey man, it's free.
  • Guvera's track database is a mess, but on the verge of being really great. If the version of a song is the same on an album and a greatest hits collection, they tend to only have one copy but display it for both. Of course the problem with that is that the tags are only right for one of them.

I will say that Morcheeba album looks to be the biggest mess I've seen on Guvera. I've seen duplicates before (usually remixes that aren't properly marked), but that's crazy. You're in luck with Bowie - Let's Dance.
  • Oh, snap! Thank you! I didn't think about searching on the album ID from their database. I think it's the "Shake It" track that I was missing from before.
Got 4 more credits somewhere in there, so I can get it now!

Erm, yes about the Morcheeba being the biggest mess I've seen, too. When DL'd, it didn't even have Artist or Album, much less track #, year, or genre. That's why I posted my warning.
