I checked in to Guvera today for the first time in a while, and I noticed that I have a new RSA channel - some roller skating thing - with no downloads available. Anyone else see this channel? The free downloads might have expired because I haven't checked in a while.
On Facebook, they've stated as recently as Sunday that new ways to get credits should hopefully be live before Christmas. Sounds like something will be happening soon, at least.
Is there any sense in me joining this site now or has the run(neth) dry? I'm still not sure that the free music will make it worth watching commercials. It's a close call which I have stronger emotions about... my love or music or my hatred of pandering commercials. One is more profoundly sincere than the other, but my imbecilic rage only amuses me for so long. I bore quickly, and the transition from anger to apathy is an ugly one for me.
you don't have to watch commercials. you just have to go to a commercial page for each individual download. it's time consuming, but you get a few free tracks to start, and maybe someday another promotion will happen.
I'm not sure I'd say it's really worth it at this point... it's been weeks since I had any credits. It's a terrible site for discovery (the navigation and search are awful), but if you know what you want, and it happens to be on there, and you happen to have enough credit, the commercial part of it is not bad. I personally haven't had any technical problems with stuff not downloading, either.
emusers.org should by like 10 credits worth of ads. Then just put that picture of froggie pretending to be a Beatle on the ad with no further explanation.
Four too! I think this will finish getting me all the 10+ minute tracks on Albert Ayler's In Greenwich Village, then I can fill in the rest from Mordac, which has been my plan, which is kind of ruined by the crappy rips from the Masters of the Universe.
Phrases you never expect to see: Do not modify frog or launcher! Also, "3+" together with "do not aim at eyes or face." I can see they don't know many 3 year olds.
My main account got four, so I grabbed the long tracks from Sonny Rollins' Moving Out and Saxophone Colossus, Jackie McLean's Strange Blues, short tracks from eMu at 49 cents each.
Me: four. Wife: eight. She let me have hers until I finished Rev. Gary Davis' Have A Little Faith, but I feel a little guilty that I didn't wake her up to say, "You can get a whole album!"

Relieved to hear I am not the only one OCD enough to do this. I got several long Gene Ammons tracks, will pick up the rest when I reload this week. Of course Guvera now looks like the better choice for Impulse too. Now if only they can start coming up with even a small number of credits on any consistent basis.
Sheesh.
I also noted that at least some of the 'missing OJCs' are missing on Guvera as well.

I've done this in the last. Not to revive the Great Bitrate Debate, but I can hear which tracks come from Guvera and which come from eMu.
Finally! My wife got 8 and I got 4. I cashed in on the extremely long (20 - 30 minute) "Album Only" tracks from The Allman Brothers' At Fillmore East, and the "Album Only" tracks from Eric Dolphy Live In Europe Vols 1, 2, and 3.
Free feels good. Got Chick Corea's Return to Forever album. Funny how that stuff work. Not really a fan of fusion much, but this one, what arguably is a base record in the history of fusion, doesn't sound much like fusion and I love it.

This is the way the game has to be played with the new eMu. I have bought a few long tracks from 7digital at 99 cents to fill in an album. As for the tags, when I use Audio Shell tagger, they are in Chinese (or Japanese), Tag & Rename has ????. I had a few with French tags in the comment section.
Why is it that everyone has a wife who gets more free tracks?
OCD? I've been fulminating over this for the last 2 months. Just got Moritat from Rollins Saxophone Colossus. I just started a private list on eMu to keep track of these tracks - I tend to have those doh! what was that track moments otherwise.

Guvera, why hast thou forsaken us?
In reply to one post asking about credits, they say, "have to wait for ad dollars to free them..." Ad sales for Guvera is probably a lonely job.

It really is the best ????? music I've heard in a while. At least these had the artist and album filled in.
edit: they weren't question marks, they were little boxes...
