My favorite is the jazz albums with a genre of "20."
Haha. I was getting some other genre number on all the Morcheeba tracks. The David Lowery album has no tags whatsoever, not even Artist or Album. Not that I'm complaining. I had to fix tags on Mardac tracks all the time, and I paid for that privilege.
@dddanmar - any news when Guevera might be coming to Europe, including the UK? Last time I contacted Guvera, about 15 months ago I was told it could be soon, but we still don't have it. Thanks
Agreed, wow, thanks for the James Blake tip. I just logged into my account twice now within the last two weeks, I had about 11 credits from who knows when and then 8 more in the new month.
Alright, you folks have finally dragged me in. I signed up and got 15 credits, which went for Eno - Here Come the Warm Jets, and Eno - Ambient1: Music for Airports, and Steve Reich - Pulse - Sections I-X - Pulse.
Haven't played it yet. When I downloaded it I had several tabs open on albums to listen to from various threads. I'm going to cue up Here Come the Warm Jets in a little bit.
edit: Since this wrapped to a new page, here's the context. Katrina asked if I'd listened to any of my first batch of Guvera downloads.
Review as Requested by Katrina
What to say about Here Come the Warm Jets? With the benefit of hindsight, it's a manifesto. The listening experience was unique as associations with Eno-produced albums came up and were immediately and violently reversed. ("This sounds like Bowie song A" "Bowie song A uses ideas from this"). I'll have to play it again after my brain has a few days to sort it all out. I'll say it again, I made a huge mistake: I should have traded in my albums after a few listens and bought more stuff I hadn't heard.
I've been checking the last couple days to see if any leftovers showed up and noticed only Gilt and the Demo channel there. But like BT said, it's happened before. And I'm almost positive it happened at the end of the month - most likely as they were getting ready for the next batch of credits.
Ah, I love end of the month. Hectic for the people that manage the channels :p.
We are trying to push the streaming service, no question about that. Offering streaming is far simpler then downloads so we'd like to see more use out of it. There's a big change happening over this weekend that will make the experience of streaming much more pleasant. The dev team was here until 11pm last night completing the finishing touches.
Having said that, DRM-free downloads are a major core part of Guvera's vision, and aren't going to fade away in favour of streaming.
Good to know, good to know.
Say, one thing I like is, I am not getting logged out all of the time, anymore. I clicked on "My Channels" and the page refreshed without me having to log in again. All the channels are back....
Had 10. Got 9. Lost one, though I don't know how, while I was trying to figure out if there was something different in the two listings of June Tabor's "The Band Played Waltzing Mathilda". I didn't hit download--the credit just disappeared.
I finished Saluzzi's Kultrum and picked up Gary Burton's Dream So real.
I should note that Michel Portal's Bailador is available at GUvera.
dddanmar - I've got a question about my downloads today. I downloaded the first three songs without a problem, but my last 5 downloads have been stalled since about 7:00 am eastern time (it's now 9:15 am).
I paused one of the downloads, then tried to restart it and got the message "The requested URL was not found on this server"
I'm totally guessing here, but it looks like the download URL times out after a certain period.
I probably screwed up by trying to download five songs simultaneously, slowing each download, but do you have any advice for me on how I can complete the 5 downloads that have started but have stalled?
dell, I feel your pain. This happened to me last month on a long track. The support response was to click the "Download Now" link...but that's no help if you've closed the window. In any case, those links seem to time out after a few minutes. Indeed it seems best to try only one or two DLs at a time.
Wow, I feel like I waited all month for this and then forgot my wallet. I need to plan ahead so I know what to grab. At least Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here is finally available again.
Wow, you don't already have that? shocked No, I get it...I don't have lots of other albums folks consider "essential".
I'm happy, got the last 4 tracks from the James Blake. Will shop later for the other 6.
For bop fans, a good use of your Guvera credits might be this Benny Golson/Curtis Fuller "Bluesette"-era "Jazztet" album...5 credits at Guvera vs $5.99 at at eMu (due to one long track).

Mutex, it's about time! Have you had a chance to listen to any of it? Which one's your favorite?

Hopefully something tonight or tomorrow!
However, I will be 1st in line to check in the morning!

Great haul this morning, thanx Guvera. I got the Stanley Cowell "Illusion Suite," plus this live Fred Anderson disc: http://www.emusic.com/album/Fred-Anderson-Quartet-The-Milawaukee-Tapes-Vol-1-MP3-Download/10860173.html Got excited at first, but the other Atavistic releases I checked weren't available.
