Warning: just tried to download a track in firefox and when I clicked the download link I got a black screen. No idea if it used the credit or not, but I didn't get the file. Only two of my channels and three of my wife's are back after the upgrade.
  • Like the new changes very much. The new search is much improved, and I like the download history. It looks like re-downloads are possible now? If so that would help with download crashes. Good job.
  • I changed my mind about the Camel track and DL'd Dobie Gray's "Drift Away". I thought I lost a DL credit on that one - on the old layout, I would have since I recognize the symptoms - but this one went through the 2nd time without subtracting another credit.

    Yay!

Unhappily neither songs dragged in from Search or anything on my Playlists will actually play now on my work laptop, and I was so happy with the job that the recently upgraded to something from this century OS (Tiger4.11) was doing streaming those playlists until now.
Edit - Happily no such issue with the desktop at home - and may I add I just love how you can add whole albums at one click to your playlists and stream the whole thing.
  • Just thought I'd take the time to say I've taken each of your comments and am going to work through them individually - the two biggest things I've got here are IE9 issues and some credits going missing after trying to dl. IE9 will get tested tomorrow, but I'm curious to the dls not working - nothing in the backend side of things changed, including the areas that actually issue the http download link. Can I get some more information on that?

Also, anyone having dramas actually using the playlist bar? One of the known bugs is the track needs to be dropped on the player {the play/pause/forward/etc bar below} vs the playlist bar {where each track shows up}.

    Four downloads for me today!
  • Ditto, 2 on my wife's account.
  • Dddanmar, when are you going to expand into Europe??
  • @dddanmar - I have a suspicion about what was happening with my black screen experience - I had two windows open and checked both my account and my wife's account, probably without exiting one before entering the other. I think it got confused. It's been working properly since.
  • No new downloads for me. And I still only have three channels since the upgrade.

I take it back. I do have four. But I am still having problems.

    1. In Opera, if I click on a channel it shows downloads but the little cogwheel icon that allows one to download a track is not showing. I had initially assumed that was a cool feature that showed me I had no downloads. But I do so it seems like a bug.
    2. In Firefox, I take back my hypothesis above. If I click on the Geico channel in the list of my channels I get a black screen surrounded by the navigating frame.
    3. On my third browser attempt, in IE, it all seems to be working.

A question. Is there meant to be any way I can globally see whether or not I have downloads or is that intentionally only within the channels so that I have to visit the channel to see if there are any downloads?
And have others experienced a radical reduction in channels since the upgrade? On my profile slamball, Guitar Edge, and Gossip Girl have gone.
  • @dddanmar - My only issue was with Chrome. Initially I couldn't scroll down to the bottom of search results to click on the next page. That now seems to be resolved.
  • I too went down to like 4 channels. And I also think it would be cool to have a feature where you can see what downloads you have left, without having to check each channel.

Also, I have a question/suggestion. I like the genres listed at the top, and when you click it takes to to a page with subgenres and 5 good albums from that genre. I was wondering if there's a way to further explore a genre on the site, instead of only seeing 5 albums. Like a genre search feature or something. Forgive me if that's already there, but I haven't seen it.

Another thing, idk if it's a problem on the new site, but on the old one at least, I'd like always have extra downloads on certain channels like Slamball and others, so when I got albums I would always have like 1 leftover, and not that I'm complaining but it's kinda annoying not really knowing how many downloads you have, cause I could've gotten a different album with one more track if I had known I had one more.
  • Started the new Beastie Boys album with these credits. Hopefully we get more at the start of the month!

  • Me too. Finished Sonny Rollins and started the Beasties. Had a little trouble with the first DL but was able to re-download without burning another credit. Good job all around on the site redesign.
  • the two biggest things I've got here are IE9 issues
I figured you'd have to get on the IE9 right away - Guvera facebook had comments about the black page. I logged in last night with IE9 and the home page showed up. Well, it says down for maintenance right now, so no other news to report. I was going to try out the drag to playbar you mentioned.

If it's any consolation, Guvera isn't the only site having IE9 problems. I waited to upgrade, but I guess I didn't wait long enough!
  • Maintenance in progress - longer than 30 minutes for sure :) I was excited to get started on the John Mayall's Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton (Deluxe Edition). That should keep my downloads useful for quite a while. I'm patient. I keep telling myself I am.
  • First time really using the new site - back button does not work in Safari 5 on a Mac :( This really ruins the user experience when browsing multi-page search results or downloading. This means I have to go through the entire process every time rather than just an easy back/forward.
  • The back button doesn't work on FF4 either.

  • So far, I love the update. It's nice to be able to get so much information quickly and to get to streaming right away. One bad thing with regard to downloads: no tack times are displayed. This had been about the only way of identifying which track is being downloaded on albums where there are alternative versions from the original album. Indeed, I just picked up a few tracks from the very cool Gerry Mulligan meets Ben Webster, but I had to guess which was the correct track (I believe I did ok).

I'm missing being able to pick up the track time as well - I was after a track from a large set the other day and had to pick the track as if I wanted to download and when it went to the channel page it displays on the lower left with the time - you can then backtrack without downloading if it's wrong but it's more work.
Ahah, it seems you can drag the song into the player on the bottom though and it will display the time. Much better.
  • The back button thing was happening in Chrome too. I used to use it all the time, so that's new.
  • Thanks for the tip about dragging tracks into the playlist to find their times. For some reason there are like 8 copies of Lady Gaga "Born This Way". I wish they were labeled correctly. I think I got the plain old radio edit, and not some alternate club version with a special DJ mix.
  • Same here. 2 each from Gilt, Geico & Maark Nason channels. The girlie channels of Victoria's Secret & Calgon are long gone.
  • Yup. Six is the new ten.
  • I suspect that Guvera ad sales is a lonely job.
  • Argh, I never got around to using that second batch last month! I hate it when I miss out on downloads...
  • And just found out that the "Download Again" button is not a free for all. Hit it, and you get asked which channel do you want to use. Bummer. I cancelled the one download because it seemed to stall (I am getting horrendous d/l rates from them right now), but probably could have let it go for a few minutes.
