eta, I was reminded of The Tubes today when I saw this on FB, posted by my local record emporium:
In the 70's and 80's he was a visionary synth player with The Tubes. Since then, he has constructed and designed many ginormous and excessive stage productions. Very good distractions, for when the talent it surrounds is sadly lacking. Birthday wishes to Michael Cotten! http://mcotten.com/work/michael-cotten-reel-2/
Grr, I'm being logged out after every download this morning. Not fun. Download, confirm, dl starts, then 'log in requires' popup, click and back to login page. (On Safari, which I've used for Guvera because wife is logged into fb on Chrome. I'll try Chrome now, see if behavior persists.)
I've been listening to this Pink Floyd tribute the past few days, and it's really good. Participants include Adrian Belew, Bill Bruford, John Wetton, Steve Howe, Tony Levin, Skunk Baxter, and Keith Emerson. No slouches here.
@dddanmar, small suggestion. On my home PC if I use list view the download button is a very long way from the track title, as the screen is very wide, which leads to a lot of checking back and forth whether I am hitting download for the right line. The change of color for the selected track when I click on a track in the list is rather subtle - white amid white and grey. Could the highlight color to show the track that has mouse focus be made a bit more contrasting?
@dddanmar - Germanprof is right, I have the same problem. I suppose making my browser "skinnier" is a solution, but buttons by the title would be idea.
@dddanmar - Did you do a single img tag or an open and close? I think it only works with open and close. Also, I've been able to download much more consistently lately. It does not appear to be a browser problem afterall as I tried on Firefox later and timed out again. I will say that after turning on my private VPN I had the most success, which makes me wonder if it's a problem with Verizon FiOS's network. Considering some other issues I've had recently that wouldn't surprise me.
@dddanmar - The album Bird and Diz by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie: only the track "Bloomdido" will download, all the others come up with the message : only available for streaming, but when you try to stream them a message pops up: Only available for downloading...................
@dddanmar: I'm suddenly getting a lot of time outs. It might be the albums (Willie "The Lion" Smith's Pork and Beans and Albert Ammons "The First Day"). Each has a few successful tracks, then all the rest seem to download very slowly until their fail.
¡Fruko! I thought I had checked before, but they're there now. If you have any of the Soundway Colombia comps, you already have some Fruko, y probablemente necesite más.
Haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but this is undoubtedly good!
BT - I had one problem with a time-out, on Sunday, but I think that was my computer's fault. It was the first download of the day, and AVG was giving me some problems. I downloaded 35 tracks after that without problem. I haven't downloaded since Sunday.
Having got just about all the Abercrombie, Surman, Rypdal, Weber, Johnson, & Stanko that's on Guvera, and a smattering of Garbarek, Jarrett, Metheny, Wheeler, Gismonti, Brederode, Bjornstad, Mazurek, Frisell, Lloyd, C. Bley, and some others, I was wondering where to dig next, so went looking for some more "best ECM albums" lists. In case anyone else is interested, here's what I found so far: A list posted to an allaboutjazz discussion that had some names new to me. Another AAJ thread with peoples top ten choices. A different Amazon list from the one I posted upthread. And another at Amazon. A blogger's top 40 with brief descriptions. This last is the most interesting.
Would someone try downloading the track "Sunny Side of the Street" from the album New Orleans Piano Wizard: Live by James Booker to test it out? Thanks.

It was a shot in the dark, to see if they had "The Nows" - I thought Clean Feed was on Guv, but apparently not (anymore??)
