@Karg Well, I did find one!

It was a shot in the dark, to see if they had "The Nows" - I thought Clean Feed was on Guv, but apparently not (anymore??)

  • Only the old stuff (10+ years) ever was.

@Kez (as well as everyone else): Gu has about 16 albums by Dougie MacLean (I'll have to explore later).

What do you want from life?

eta, I was reminded of The Tubes today when I saw this on FB, posted by my local record emporium:
In the 70's and 80's he was a visionary synth player with The Tubes. Since then, he has constructed and designed many ginormous and excessive stage productions. Very good distractions, for when the talent it surrounds is sadly lacking. Birthday wishes to Michael Cotten! http://mcotten.com/work/michael-cotten-reel-2/

Grr, I'm being logged out after every download this morning. Not fun. Download, confirm, dl starts, then 'log in requires' popup, click and back to login page. (On Safari, which I've used for Guvera because wife is logged into fb on Chrome. I'll try Chrome now, see if behavior persists.)

ETA: works normally in Chrome. No logouts.

I've been listening to this Pink Floyd tribute the past few days, and it's really good. Participants include Adrian Belew, Bill Bruford, John Wetton, Steve Howe, Tony Levin, Skunk Baxter, and Keith Emerson. No slouches here.

Pink Box: Songs of Pink Floyd
  • @Doofy, thanks for the Tubes suggestions. Sadly, the album I want is streaming-only.

The Tube are (were ?) great ! - and their live performances were spectacular.
White Punks on dope ! - live 1983 - (Youtube)
  • Maintenance in Progress

Watch this space because exciting things are happening here at Guvera HQ!
All will be revealed very soon...
  • Love it when things break on a Sunday.
    Should be all fine again....
  • @dddanmar, small suggestion. On my home PC if I use list view the download button is a very long way from the track title, as the screen is very wide, which leads to a lot of checking back and forth whether I am hitting download for the right line. The change of color for the selected track when I click on a track in the list is rather subtle - white amid white and grey. Could the highlight color to show the track that has mouse focus be made a bit more contrasting?
  • @dddanmar - Germanprof is right, I have the same problem. I suppose making my browser "skinnier" is a solution, but buttons by the title would be idea.

GP, Plong, I passed it on and I just noticed on our pre-release site your request was done.

How does this look? Top of the image is the site as it is now, the bottom is the new release (a few days away).

(Same Love is the selected/highlighted track)
{edit} bbcode doesn't seem to work for me with [ img ] tags :/
  • @dddanmar - Did you do a single img tag or an open and close? I think it only works with open and close. Also, I've been able to download much more consistently lately. It does not appear to be a browser problem afterall as I tried on Firefox later and timed out again. I will say that after turning on my private VPN I had the most success, which makes me wonder if it's a problem with Verizon FiOS's network. Considering some other issues I've had recently that wouldn't surprise me.
  • @dddanmar - The album Bird and Diz by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie: only the track "Bloomdido" will download, all the others come up with the message : only available for streaming, but when you try to stream them a message pops up: Only available for downloading...................
  • ^^^As noted above, same issue with the recently re-added XTC albums
  • @dddanmar, personally I'd go for more contrast still/a different color for the highlight, but I can live with that.

Downloads are taking forever. I had two three timeout.
  • @dddanmar: I'm suddenly getting a lot of time outs. It might be the albums (Willie "The Lion" Smith's Pork and Beans and Albert Ammons "The First Day"). Each has a few successful tracks, then all the rest seem to download very slowly until their fail.

¡Fruko! I thought I had checked before, but they're there now. If you have any of the Soundway Colombia comps, you already have some Fruko, y probablemente necesite más.

Haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but this is undoubtedly good!
  • Is anyone else having problems with time-outs?
  • BT - I had one problem with a time-out, on Sunday, but I think that was my computer's fault. It was the first download of the day, and AVG was giving me some problems. I downloaded 35 tracks after that without problem. I haven't downloaded since Sunday.
  • Just tried some, no probs
  • I don't think I've ever had a time out issue. I downloaded about 15 tracks yesterday and 80 or so over the weekend.

Having got just about all the Abercrombie, Surman, Rypdal, Weber, Johnson, & Stanko that's on Guvera, and a smattering of Garbarek, Jarrett, Metheny, Wheeler, Gismonti, Brederode, Bjornstad, Mazurek, Frisell, Lloyd, C. Bley, and some others, I was wondering where to dig next, so went looking for some more "best ECM albums" lists. In case anyone else is interested, here's what I found so far:
A list posted to an allaboutjazz discussion that had some names new to me.
Another AAJ thread with peoples top ten choices.
A different Amazon list from the one I posted upthread.
    And another at Amazon.
A blogger's top 40 with brief descriptions. This last is the most interesting.
  • Would someone try downloading the track "Sunny Side of the Street" from the album New Orleans Piano Wizard: Live by James Booker to test it out? Thanks.
  • Did so, successfully.
  • Thanks. It must be my network (I hate AT&T).
  • (...How can I tell BT that I, also, have AT&T...!?)
  • G.'s got 5 of the seven cuts from this album (missing 2 Album Only), but I figured I had to get the whole thing at Amazon.
