Jeez, what's going on with downloading over there? This prompted me to try a DL, which is now happily humming along. Presumably that's because I have an old (4 point something) version of the DLM.
I really am not too sure what to do re E music, due out of hold early April with my plan of 50 downloads, could fill this with albums I want but is it worth the hassle of dealing with their systems. Using Bandcamp and Noisetrade I have not had one and I have also not missed it at all.
I cant belive the company are ignoring the messageboard, when I worked for a gaming company it was the one area that was so important to us, every bad comment was checked and answered. leaving customers to post bad comments is not good and having a download company where it is hard to download is slightly short og criminal.
I can see it being a business for long if it carries on like this
For the last several months I've had problems with my v4 DLM - click on download and I had a 50-50 chance that it would actually download on the first attempt. Couple of weeks ago it suddenly became completely unresponsive, so I took a chance on DLM 6. No problems since then. I suppose I could try to post something positive on the emu message board but I'm sure I'd be accused of something.
@lowlife - It is obviously up to each person to decide what their personal pain-point is w/eMu or where the cost/benefit balance is. I found it personally revealing that their recent $500 credit drawing/giveaway noted a couple posts up thread wasn't enough $ to persuade me to want to wander back into their swamp (assuming that I would actually win). Figuring that I wouldn't win anything I had absolutely no desire to even go through the steps to register for that drawing at all. However, I did consider it for about 5-10 minutes to be honest. Good luck with whatever you decide. For any current or future subscribers I would heartily recommend to forgo any eMu DLM and install and use the eMusicJ downloader (I assume that still works... maybe not with their most recent changes with the 'confirm your purchase' button and all).
Yes Nereffid, I've also started to have that kind of response with DLM 4 since they introduced the new Confirm stage. So far I have resisted DLM 6. I'm continually going through the same process Lowlife. I almost left a month or so ago, I was getting really annoyed with something, can't even remember now what it was as so many things frustrate me there. But then there was the big ECM drop, so I have even bought a large booster to get more from that drop. I could have waited and downloaded them over the next few months, but almost everytime I go there I wonder if they will still be in business. I'm getting some good music from both Bandcamp and Noisetrade, along with a few purchases from Amazon, but what emusic gives me is jazz cheaply. I think if we got Guvera I'd jump ship
I actually ended up being forced to install DLM 6 the other day (before I figured out via the message board how to get emusic/j to work again after the latest changes.) Have to say that downloading has worked flawlessly with it so far. Sample player has been broken for ages, though. And customer support has descended to new lows (no cogent response to either message board or twitter DMs).
GP, It takes strong means of expression to get attention from the Emu's. - My "warning - do not download" and recently the "free albums galore" triggered almost immediate responses on the board and emails.
Anyways, the player has worked flawlessly for a day or two. no sound increase, no forwards and backwards and no random memory.
For this occation I thought about making a thread with "Do no use the player, your PC will explode !" in the subject line.
Hmmmm ? - - - or maybe a "rolling tech team mockery thread" ?
I can't search for anything, so other than using my SFL or editorial features I cannot access anything to download - it just goes from bad to worse. Everyday there seems to be a new problem... Would any other organisation survive long like this?
DLM6 does work for me.....technically....it just tends to hide the music files on my pc and certainly doesn't put them into Windows Media Player like I asked it to. I can search for the files and can play them, but it's like they've been coded with something that makes them completely resistant to staying in WMP!
I'm just playing a game of "stick it out and see" at the minute, due to the grandfathered plan, but there's no way new subscribers on inflated prices could be expected to be interested in all these silly workarounds we keep having to find.
Could I get help with eMu's prices (because only subscribers can see them)? How much are new albums on the labels Celestial Harmonies and Canyon Records going for?
As each new day passes without fixing glitches
You just have to wonder whos robbing your riches.
Once, monthly subscriptions were greeted with cheers,
But then with track pricing came anger and jeers.
Price a new track on Amazon. On eMusic its less.
Til theyve jacked up their prices to give you distress.
They claim their selections now the cream of the crop.
Just dont play the samples, cause those tracks will not stop.
You search for one track youve always wanted to test.
On eMusic, nine thousand tracks match your request.
Just go find that track, if youve got five days to waste.
You still might find something that matches your taste.
Tracks saved for later once had a red square.
Then suddenly all of those squares werent there.
If you want Mellow Yellow or Crimson and Clover,
Buy them now, cause your credits will not carry over.
Downloads often fail, though you get to retry
Until no music arrives and you just have to cry.
Dont send emails to Jamie or Hannah or eMusics mods.
Youd be better off contacting fictional gods.
Soon eMusic subscribers all may be gone
To Spotify, iTunes and old Amazon.
Harvards MBA students just might study and read
Bout a flawed business model that couldnt succeed.
Maybe this site will work wont that be a surprise
Before eMusic suffers slow, painful demise?
There is no quick fix. They cant get that prescription.
Now might be the right time to just end your subscription.
Ugh! The end is near! Just had to post a new rant over there about how they've screwed up in changing the Search modality - I don't think these clowns even realize what they mess up, and it's because they don't actually shop there, so they don't even know the system. Half way through the month and I haven't even used up half of my paltry $22.99. Well, they are saving me some money to spend on CD's.
DLM 4 stopped working for me a while back, too. Being too lazy to walk downstairs to the old XP laptop & get the installer so I could give it a fresh install, I tried DLM 6.
To my surprise, it still works for getting the free daily DL, even though I haven't subscribed for years.
I got a tip from Noah some time ago when my DLM 4 was not working
Can you go to this url http://www.emusic.com/dlm/install/ which will set your browser's cookie. This way it'll know you'll DLM preference has been set.

We're temporarily experiencing some issues with our Search function, and are working hard to correct them. Thank you for your patience.
If they have made some changes that don't work, can't they go back to where they were? I really do wonder that if they tested changes fully before implementing it would take up less time than trying to sort out the mess and losing a few more customers on the way.
Edit - and the sample player is still not working! Why dom't they close down for a day, toi get everything sorted out off line? Possibly not, because they may not be back. How long can this go on for?
Well, f**k me - I guess this shows that the nimrod eMu moderators have no actual technical skills because otherwise they would be busily trying to fix the problems with the site, instead of using valuable time and energy to extirpate a couple of of "offensive" words that no one was forced to read if they didn't want to. The company and the MB there sink to new lows of inanity and irrelevance together. At least some of the demented rants and slingfests of previous times were more bloody entertaining.
BN - You better watch out. They'll wash your IP address out with soap.
- Oh ? should I be worried ?
Well . . . I just couldn't resist, I doubt that they will remove my post.
After all I was just recommending an Emusic album. (never heard about it)
@ Big That was great fun. - Thanks.
I also doubt that they will remove the album I asked them to, even though everything about it is perverse to the extreme.
ETA: Not that I would want them to.

Canyon Records - only 2 titles, $5.39 and $5.88

As I remember it, the only "profanity" was the use of the word fuck in the subject line of two Mailman threads.
Edit - Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in. It's on you, BN - I couldn't resist.

BTW: The good Mailman has just been "humping" my Fuck thread.
