Well that may be the end of eMu for me.

Well there are bands already on emusic called "laptop" (albeit recording a decade ago) and "cello" (so apparently both are fine with selling their stuff on emusic? Or did they manage to dig up another cello that wasn't?). Yes, I suspect they misread the band name - except in the original request I also gave the title and label (a label emusic already carries) so I remain a bit puzzled as to what they actually went lookng for.
  • we'll be getting the Beatles with John and George digitally subtracted
    Paul's still working on that.
  • Beatles 3000 (watch - it's hilarious)
  • Hah ha, nicely done!
  • It is quite funny. A bit of the old game telephone.
  • I had to LOL, I can just imagine it happening!!!
  • The musical reproduction is what really kills me.
  • goodness, that was funny!
  • I think what I like most about that Beatles video is that despite the apparent exaggeration, it actually quite accurately hits on the real pitfalls of making claims and certain kinds of argument about ancient history based on incomplete records. It's quite smart underneath the humor.
  • Fantastic, and I say that as someone with a masters in Egyptology. I can't help but think everything I ever wrote on it must sound like this. ;-)
  • Stephen Colbert had a guy on recently who he described as an expert on ancient Rome, and went on to say something to the effect "Easy to claim since there is no one left who can contradict him!"
  • So ... no holiday bonus this year?
  • It's a curious achievement when you think about it to have conditioned your customer base to fear new features and services.
    This made me laugh.

I only visit this thread once every three months or so to see if there have been any significant changes. There haven't been.
  • So ... no holiday bonus this year?
I got an email from emusic a couple of days ago, thanking me for my custom in 2012 and telling me there are some new things coming this year. I quickly scanned the email hoping for a bonus, but no there was none!
  • I'm unable to listen to samples on eMus via Firefox suddenly. It worked a week ago. I am able to get it to work via Safari.

It could be my ad-blocker, which is only through Firefox. Wondering if anybody else is having problems. I began reading a couple emu forum threads, but stopped when the thread subject got diverted from the OP to whatever anybody felt like complaining about.
  • I can listen to samples on Firefox with Ad block plus set to max. I have had a couple of sites that won't let me enter because of ad block plus - heck with 'em. But Emusic is working ok for me right now.
  • Hm, I'm now also having problems with Safari. Samples won't play, and some of the screen repeat themselves. Weird.
  • Sheesh, the new Charles Lloyd/Jason Moran on ECM is 1, count em 1, dollar cheaper at eMu vs Amazon (8.99 vs 9.99). The eMu a la carte price is identical to iTunes, 11.99.
  • Doofy, I'm still at an annual sub, which means my discount is ~50%, so my price for that would be ~$6 real money, which is 60% the Amazon price. Just some perspective...
  • It is getting harder to remain an emusic member. I, like others, am struggling getting to hear samples. I'll often go to Amazon first if, eg, I've read a review of something I want to hear. But I've just been going through Jonah's jazz picks of the week. It adds extra steps going to Amazon - why can't emusic get it right? Then I want to download something. I never used to have problems with Downloader 4, but now that they have added the Confirm button, nothing seems to happen for around two-thirds of my attempts. The only thing keeping me there is my grandfathered plan. Because of the recent Europe ECM back catalogue drop, I'm finding lots to download, to the extent that I really will need to buy a booster pack this month. But that costs more per track, so maybe for some albums I'd be better elsewhere. It would be so much better if emusic worked the way it used to two years ago! Looking at their message board, lots of complaints, many from recent new posters, still not like the old days - bring back amc v wanderer! Emusic really has lost its way, trying to be something it cannot be on its current finacial model. If/when Europe gets Guvera, I think that will be the end, for now I keep going on price alone, as I would not download anywhere near the amount that I do at Amazon etc.
  • Is anyone else locked out of Emusic today? I've tried changing my password to no avail. Now to work out how to contact them without first being signed in to the site.....

Yes - I've just tried. I know my user name and password are correct as it goes onto autofill after the first couple of letters. Is this the beginning of the end???

I clicked onto the message board, got a list of threads, clicked on the first and got this message
Sorry, our site is temporarily unavailable
    due to scheduled maintenance.

If it is scheduled, they really ought to warn us, as it is not night everywhere in the emusic world! And I always get concerned about what the next 'new' thing they are going to try, as it always seems to make things worse!
  • Strangely, the message board is working for me. Everything about the site's appearance looks like it is working, I just can't sign in. I've emailed them anyway, so we'll see what they say.......
  • I am coming up to the end of my hold soon, I am not sure I going to come back. I am finding so much more on bandcamp and if its anything else I require there are other sites without having to gamble my credits.
  • Well, "Bruce" from Emusic has replied to say that the site had temporary issues earlier, and gave the catch-all advice about clearing my cache and cookies. All seems back to normal though.
  • Good - I am at a conference all weekend, so the downloading I had planned this morning will have to wait until Monday now.
