Ya-da-ya-da-ya-da-ya-da. You can get Merge and 4AD anywhere, too. Sorry, I'd offer you a hankie but I'm fresh out from all the whiners in the past few days.
oh man, i hate rattle & hum with enough hatred to ignite a dead star.
My wife is a U2 fan but she has enough sense not to play anything released post Unforgettable Fire because I'll have a rage aneurysm. My affection for the music ranges from very mild tolerance to "what's in the nearest vicinity that I can smash". The only other band that generates this type of reaction from me is Squeeze; I must have some repressed memories of the 80's.
I had to laugh at you Rattle & Hum haters. I need to search out the CD and make a toast to you while listening.
I have no idea what I listen to most now. Most of my listening in the last few months has been at my computer. Retirement changed my listening habits. I used to have music on all the time at work and during my daily commute of 45 minutes each way, but can't do the same at home because it annoys spouse. So it's close the door, listen while I'm on the computer, or wear earphones while I'm puttering around the house. He was a bigger music fan than I when I met him, but he never, ever listens now. People do change. I can't imagine life without music.

Wow, freaky and a little scary. Just reading that gives me a bit of the willies.
My wife's was the same way. She used to listen to a lot of music, but then confined that listening just to her commute. When she got home, she'd ask me to turn off whatever I was playing so she could watch TV or sit in silence. Now that she's singing again, though, she's more interested in exploring.
I noticed that. In that instance, it was easy to know it was Wanderer. He has tried to be the voice of reason, albeit a bit too smug about it, but the venom just has to slip out every now and then.

I think you're quite forgiving. Daniel esq and Kargatron have sought balance. Wanderer has persistently been an opportunist who enjoys irking those who will not profit as he will.
Glad to hear some of you are living U2-free lives and loving it. Life's too short to listen to music you hate. I have a similar reaction to just about anything by Styx; it's got to go and I won't have it in my house or on my PC. OMG, I lied...Mr Roboto is part of a compilation album. It must die in the bin!
My spouse doen't like the music anymore, either. We used to wake up every morning to my stereo blasting music....no TV for 15 years, music on all the time....now the damn TV is on all the time. Husband and son will just leave it on and if it goes to an infomercial, they don't even turn it off. Good grief.
I've actually been on a mission to find U2 in dollar bargain bins lately. Can't recall why, actually, but one day it just started. I picked up Unforgettable Fire at the target price about a month ago. Listened to it once, remembered liking a few songs, tried listening to it again later and lost interest fast. I also found a copy of Actung Baby, which I enjoyed back in the day and still enjoy now. I'd like to find Under a Blood Red Sky, the album that has New Years Day on it, and another one, I forget which. If I see the album cover, I'll know it. I owned all three of them in high school back in the vinyl days, and wouldn't mind revisiting them.
Oh, yeah, I remember why I started this. I heard one of their current songs like in a mall or supermarket or something, maybe on a commercial, and thought, man, does he have any idea how uncool he is and how adult contemporary lame his music is? Well, of course he doesn't, but it make me want to revisit some of their old stuff.
I never liked Joshua Tree. Hated it, actually. I always thought "The Edge" (snicker) was pretty overhyped as a guitarist. Big time. I' mean, I like his sound sometimes, but he's more of an engineer than a player.
I think their last 2 albums sucked. Maybe one good song on each.
I saw them on their Zoo Station tour. Which reminds me, I need to get on the stick and try to win tickets for their closest 2011 show in the USA.
Nanker is probably ignoring that they are in Australia next month.
I picked up Boy, October, and All That You Can't Leave Behind at the 7digital sale last tear. Haven't listened to All That ... yet. I have War, Joshua Tree, and 2 or 3 others on CD. A friend brought me a copy of the Atom Bomb (or whatever it is), and I think I listened to it once or twice. Haven't heard it enough to know whether or not I really like it.

I decided 2 years ago to be the dictatorial dickhead in the house and canceled our cable TV outright and shoved everyone into using the computer as a TV. I refuse to back down and when it comes up I point out that when they turn off music and put on a movie no one watches it, it just loops in VLC so why would I pay $120 a month for that experience. If I truly could make my will law it would be music from sun up to sundown.

I was kidding about Daniel. No way does he sound like Wanderer, who did have one or two reasonable posts, but he just can't maintain it. I did acknowledge Daniel's well-balanced posts on a thread over there.
I'm afraid Bono got on my bad side, I believe it was at the time of the album with the B.B.King collaboration, when he came out with words to the effect that they were going to save American rock'n'roll for posterity, and I thought what a pompous ass he was, and that American rock'n'roll didn't need his assistance thank you very much. Too self-important for my tastes.
BigD, I almost said something in the same vein, but didn't. If the music suits me, I will still buy it, but I am turned off by Bono's "Look At ME! I'm Saving the World" image.
U2 falls into the category of band I was in love with in my youth, still enjoy their music from that time period, but never really bother playing anymore.
I try to lay off the hatred of any music these days, but Bono rivals Wanderer when it comes to self-important hypocrisy.

Man, I didn't realize how lucky I am. My wife puts up with all of it sans protest, except for the occasional free-jazz squonker, can't really blame her for that. Her sister was staying with us for a while, TV on all the time, that was a strain.
I got Vertigo that year for Xmas, no other U2 in the house. They are far and away the most popular band on radio here in Chicago, you don't really need to buy the albums.
Ultimately, I think it is the very diversity of major labels that disgusts the hipster crowd so much and has turned so many of them against emu. They can't stand eating in a restaurant that would serve such unenlightened types. Apparently, the contemporary preaching about appreciation for diversity has never registered with them.
I think U2 albums would be nearly perfect if released in dub form. The Edge may be more of an engineer than a "player", but that's exactly what his music needs.

Re: the Wanderer. Wouldn't it be funny if he and Suckle Chimp turned out to be the same person?
I'm considering staying on at emu for one month and grabbing a couple of these cheapie ECMs, but my concern is this...
It's pretty typical for the first track of every album to not download properly; not always, but often. I usually then disable the downloader and grab it that way. Usually works, though sometimes not 'til the third try.
As you might've guess, my concern is that they'll try to make me pay if the emu downloader says, sure, successful download, however, it wasn't successful on my end. The reasonable person in me thinks, okay, their new policy just adds a step to the process in that now I'd probably have to email customer support and tell them, hey, that first track problem occurred again, please let me download it one or two more times until I get the whole track in my iTunes, they would say, sure, we understand, and there would be no problem. The unreasonable person in me says customer support comes back with a response of, sorry, according to our system it says the track downloaded fine, if you want to dl it again, it'll cost you. I'm leaning toward the reasonable person in me, but if I'm wrong and they pull a stunt, it will make me very very bitter and self-reproaching that I stayed around for another month.

Gots to hate that guy.

I think the other unnamed one was either Boy or maybe October, or both I suppose. If I saw either for a buck, I'd pick them up.
I really enjoyed War, if memory serves. I still enjoy hearing New Years Day when it pops up on the radio.

It's about this redownloading policy controversy.
