A: eMusics policy on re-downloads remains the same: members who experience a technical problem while downloading a track or album will be able to retry the download free of charge. What is new as of November 18, 2010, is that we can now detect whether or not a download has been completed successfully. If we detect a problem with a download, the download button will turn red . Members can click it to retry the download at no charge. After a successful download, this button will appear [edit: blue checkmark button] . Members can click it to request an additional download but will be charged for it. In the event you are unable to complete a download due to a technical problem, please contact Customer Care for assistance.
?If you want to get a copy of a song onto two different computers, one at work and one at home, for example, youll need to do this manually, with a USB flash drive or other method to avoid being charged again. As always, we recommend you back up your downloads regularly.
?Looking ahead, we are working on a Digital Locker which will allow members to access their music collection with any web-enabled device. We hope to make this feature available in 2011.
I'm at a work function and have only had a chance to have a quick squizz on my phone but it appears Stax at least is suddenly no longer available in my region. That's the kind of kick in the guts for me that losing Beggars etc is to others.
Have ducked into the loo to send this SOS, will be a very anxious breakfast til I can get back to the office and survey they rest of the damage.
Well, there's plenty of deals around. And you can probably save a dollar or 2 on most album. Not worth a subscription to me. But I'll get to play around with it in a month when I get a freebie.
I am thankful that I left the Download Manager standing with the Download Error notices. When the site came back up, I clicked on Resume All, and downloading started again. If I had cleared the darned thing, I would be buying over half that album all over again.
On second thought, I think I would have complained to CS, stating that taking the site offline caused the error, so I should be allowed to download again without repurchasing. Wonder if they would have accepted that?
@Daniel - Did you stumble upon that, or were we both searching Talk Talk at the same time? For the record I got it free at Guvera, otherwise it would make my SFL.
As I said on the other board, given the obvious conflict between eMusic's version of recent events and that of the labels in question, I see no reason why anybody would assume eMusic's telling the truth here. It's probably somewhere in the middle, of course, but what has eMusic done since before the Sony drop to justify a leap of faith? Sounds like a rhetorical question, I know, but seriously? Anyone?
i don't know, but as i said upthread, i'm inclined to believe emusic. but from the NYT article, i think more than anything, emusic was perhaps a victim of its own negotiating success.
and mommio, it is old, but (a) it's amazing, (b) it's hard to find, and (c) it's way cheaper here than other outlets iirc.
Trying to find a boxset I looked up John Coltrane. The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings is $26.10 on eMu and $27.99 on Amazon - but that's for mp3 OR the actual box!
BIG, BIG WARNING: complete album button shows the price for the whole album without deducting the tracks you already have bought or gotten as free daily downloads.
You would think that they would eventually fix the SFL count bug. I've got 109 items in there but only 73 show. That's a pretty painful reminder of what's been lost.
The prices are good for the most part, but I'm just not interested in managing a subscription this way. If they let people buy boosters with held accounts, etc. then it might be useful - otherwise a month here or there at best.
Go to court. Come back and there are 59 new posts on this thread. Yowza!
The numbers I'm seeing don't make up for the subscription model.
Daniel - I think you're letting your passion for eMusic get in the way of your reason. Obviously what the labels are saying isn't the whole truth, but the same is true of eMusic. As always in negotiations there is no such thing as black and white.

It is kinda funny (and predictable, and sad) that the loss of Merge hasn't affected the feature articles yet. Here's a nice retrospective on Superchunk, with helpful links to a bunch of albums that are no longer for sale on eMusic.

Stax! Swindleeee! ;-(

Breezin by George Benson has forty nine cent redownloads
but the tracks that I did not previously purchase now cost seventy nine cents

Erykah Badu Live is $6.49 for 14 tracks
On Amazon it has 19 tracks for $9.49
hmmm

Craig
you're right.
Which is a good example of why I tend to more believe the labels.
