Free compilation from Dragon's Eye Recordings to mark their 6th anniversary. Names include Will Long, Stephen Vitiello, Ian Hawgood...
For Iron, artists featured on Dragon’s Eye were asked to contribute either a solo piece or a collaboration with another Dragon’s Eye artist. The results came together as a massive free download compilation, consisting of 24 artists, on 20 tracks and over 2 1/2 hours of sound. The compilation came together as a perfect mix of the styles and voices featured on Dragon’s Eye over the last 6 years.

ETA - I posted several albums by Slow here yesterday. After much digging around the emusers site I discovered all these had been posted at one time or another before by Brighternow and Bad Thoughts, so apologies and no news here (earlier post deleted). However I'm going to leave the bare links here for convenience since it DID take 20 minutes of searching to find them all on here in their various threads, so it might be useful to someone to have them in one place. These are all by Slow and are all nice (I especially like Flora & Fauna and Dual Box).

    Dual Box by Slow
    room phive by Slow[/img]
    Father by Slow
    Strange Dreams by Slow
    Love by Slow

His various others seem to be no longer available, except for one pay-for release that is on emusic.

Thanks, Brighternow, I've been enjoying these.
  • Some gentle acoustic blues - Mountain Men by Mat with Iano - from what I can glean it's an out of print album from a few years back that they've made available online. Laid back acoustic guitar and harmonica blues, quite nicely done. They posted it as .WAV files, which is good for sound quality but makes it a large download.

If you download the digital edition of Fluid Radio's end of year retrospective magazine thing, you get included in the zip file six unreleased tracks by Hummingbird, mixed as a single file - very nice ambient.

Yair Yona - It's Not the Heat Free single for an email address.
  • Pleasant free various artists comp from First Word Records on bandcamp. Seems to be a mix of reggae/soul/hiphop/funk/dub. Some of it's not my thing but there are a few nice tracks. Free download.

Gizeh Records has seven of its releases available for free download from their webstore. These include a winter sampler (which includes a sample from the excellent recent Farewell Poetry album) as well as various individual releases. I am still downloading, but the samples I've heard from the Glissando album at the bottom sound pretty interesting, and I see there's one by Detwiije, whose previous debut I enjoyed (it was post-rock-ish). When I get round to downloading and listening I'll add comments if any of these stand out.

    Philip Jeck - Live at The Brucknerhaus 22.09.11 – 32:58 - 192 kbps - (Touch Radio 2011)
Philip Jeck in performance was recorded on 6th September 2011 at The Brucknerhaus, Linz, Austria for Prix Ars Electronica, at which Philip Jeck was awarded a Distinction for his LP 'Suite: Live in Liverpool' [Touch # Tone 29, 2009]. The multi-channel recording (2 channels off the desk, two in the room) was mixed for TouchRadio by BJNilsen.
Jacob Kirkegaard - Eldfjall Live at Observatori Festival, Valencia, 6th November 2005 - 33:00
""The sounds I here perform with were recorded in two ways: with an acoustic microphone and with an accelerometer. For the acoustic recordings I used a Sanken CSS-5 which I held very closely to the tiny bubbling surface. The accelerometer was inserted approximately 4 cm into the earth and picked up a denser timbre than the acoustic microphone. As opposed to the Eldfjall CD release (where I chose to let the sounds stand by themselves), I here mixed the different sounds with each other to create a more organic sound and a narrative. I began the concert with creaking ice from different lakes in Iceland. These were also recorded with accelerometers. None of the sounds have been processed."
    - Jacob Kirkegaard.

First single available for download from Orcas, which is a new collaboration between Rafael Anton Irisarri and Benoit Pioulard. Very nice.
  • So, who wants some free Bach organ music? All of it...
The FMA is proud to present Dr. James Kibbie’s ambitious project, the performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s complete works for organ.

Since Bach needs no introduction, I’ll focus on what else makes this a special treat for the FMA. For one, Dr. Kibbie recorded in Germany on the region’s finest original baroque organs. These instruments, each occupying multiple stories in a church, are to an electric organ as this gong is to a Zildjian cymbal. Dr. Kibbie selected them to meet the stylistic requirements of Bach’s opus, and you can learn more about each organ at the Block M Records website.

via the Free Music Archive, of course
  • That is an amazing offer Doofy! Thanks
