$5.99 at Amazon. Personnel: Billy Harper, tenor sax; Eddie Henderson, trumpet; David Weiss, trumpet; Craig Handy, alto sax (tracks 1-5); George Cables, piano; Cecil McBee, bass; Billy Hart, drums; with special guest, Azar Lawrence, tenor and soprano sax.
While "The Cookers" is a fine name for this outfit, my suggestion would have been "The Warhorses"! They have a CD release party coming up at the Iridium in NYC next weekend.
Pandora's Box, Monomeet EP
Thanks, BN. The perils of singing in one's second language: it sounds to me in the last track as if he's singing repeatedly about whether he or we will recall all these mammaries, but I'm sure it's intended to have something to do with memories.
Sludgy shoegaze I discovered on a SXSW sampler and grabbed with this months eMu attempt to get me to come back (this month they upped it to $11.99 for $0.99 paid. I honestly can't figure out why anyone would have a subscription).
Then Deep Space by Jah Wobble
Not even sure what genre I'd put this in. One of those that I don't like enough to listen to more than occasionally but that still intrigues me enough to listen to it again occasionally. "Girl Amazed At The Perfection Of A Rose Fails To Meditate Upon Chaos" is a cool song title. But "The Competition Of Supermassive Black Holes And Galactic Spheroids In The Destruction of Globular Clusters" is overkill.
- A Nicolas Bernier recording unknown to me - Nice ! . . . Thanks to Germanprof.
"Electronic music that sounds like build from Lego, experimental Pop that carries beautiful melodies without kitsch or additional icing."
- Sven Swift, Earlabs (Netherlands).
@Brighternow, I'm having trouble finding any reviews of Nicolas Bernier's silence.musique - do you have that one? What's it like? (I'm going to pick up The Dancing Deer next from MTraks - silence.musique is there too but I'm slightly (just slightly) more hesitant over a 40 minute installation piece.) Thanks for turning me on to Bernier - really great stuff.
After listening to the Schubert this morning, I have now made it through all of the Naxos 24 Hours of Classical Music at least once, except for Tchaikovsky (Nutcracker) and Wagner. Doubt I will ever hear "Ride of the Valkyries" without mostly thinking of Bugs Bunny.
Golevka by The Evpatoria Report
I hung back on this one for a while, because the two bonus tracks got packaged as a second disk, bumping the price up to $6.97 on emusic - and to add insult to injury those two tracks are free on the band's website. However, the emusic price is still less than half the Amazon price and a couple of dollars cheaper than 7digital, so I finally swallowed hard and hit download. And the album is brilliant. Guitar-based post-rock from Switzerland.

Wonderful, just wonderful.
@BT - I'll have to check out Half a Fruit Pie
Thanks BT!
Hadn't actually gotten around to listening to the full thing. I like it a lot.
Thanks, Doofy!

Slither Slice by New Orleans Nigthtcrawlers
New Orleans jazz. A little frenetic for me in places, but good stuff in modest doses. 8th Ward Strut is a fun track.

Needed something loud and assertive for mowing the lawn. Great instrumentals by members of Dream Theater and King Crimson.

Shoegaze, basically. This used to be downloadable for NYOP, but I guess they couldn't get rid of the vinyl copies that way...?
Nicolas Bernier Ail Et LEau Faille
Free download at the archive. Not quite as brilliant as courant.air, but still some nice stuff.

I Uakti.
Would have been in the running for my Best of 2010 if I'd had it early enough.
