Taken from the blues parlance for the length of a one year prison sentence, Eleven Twenty-Nine is the new project of Tom Carter and Marc Orleans. This debut self-titled album, dedicated to the late Jack Rose, releases a sound that has done hard-time in the blues, from two performers who have constantly pushed the limits of rock guitar. Tom, a latter day Carter Family member as a co-founder of Texas Charalambides, has explored a psychedelic-brand of guitar instrumentals. Between his band and solo work, he has released some 50 albums, all garnering high praise. While Marc, a slick-fingered guitar-slinger, has imprinted on legions of fans the sounds of Helix, Juneau and the Sunburned Hand of Man. Together they deliver an album steeped in the soul and depth of blues while moving forward into an enigmatic free-improv rock.
And there are times when my musical tastes do converge with Bighternow's! But that diversity is actually one of the strengths of this site, because I'd have never known about the album without recommendations here
This is a good one. (I can only recommend the first disk, however; to my ear, taking this delicate, floating style of music and remixing it with a dance beat is not an enhancement)
There's so many great listens on that Sunnyside Bandcamp page. I am so thrilled with that label's output this year and even more thrilled they've given me an opportunity to stream it and get addicted to it before buying it.
Absolutely loving that Nils Frahm and the other stuff on that soundcloud page. Frahm has been on my radar for a little while now. I got that single he did with Steven Schneider that is just so pretty. I'm definitely looking to buy some of his music. Unfortunately, all emu has is that collaboration with Blumm, which I'm currently listening to on soundcloud. I remember getting a couple Blumm albums on Amie St. I think one is called "Lichen". Not bad. Peaceful stuff, pleasant to listen to even though not terribly compelling.
