@Doofy, being more distanced from that culture I was more bothered by Santorum endorsing the Crusades (I might even have got that link from your twitter?) than the direction of his baseball cap, which would have passed me by - but if he's insensitive enough for one maybe the other will follow.
Listened to this twice. The first time I could make nothing of it. The second time it was falling into place. That's a promising sign. (Of course the fact that in between the first and second listens I found out that my tax situation is about $4,000 better than I was expecting might well have played a role as well...)
- "On more than a third of this disk, sound bears direct witness to the Maya and their calendarsMayan notions of time reborn as scales. And atop the scales, tales: of a crystal skull, a fearsome temptress, a still-living bird that saw Creation, and a princess who gave her soul to marimba music. Microtonalism comes to archaeology. . . . . . "
When the credits say "Joe," I say "Go." Just put it together that Billy Cobham is the drummer here...though strongly identified with fusion, I now see he was on a lot of CTI sessions.
Greg: It's cheaper at mtraks, so I'll save it until I'm back over there. How their version of Barret's Privateers? The best Canadian song ever, but it ends up tripping up so many bands.
I recently got Tribe Called Quest's "Low End Theory" and was surprised to hear Ron Carter credited as the live bass player on one track - it was not a name that meant anything to me last time I listened to the album.

Probably a top ten all time album for me. Top twenty at minimum. I also had never noticed Carter's name. Going to go out on a limb and say the track is "Jazz (We've Got)"?
I so need to get some Palmieri. Where would you recommend starting, amclark2?

Dyani was simply awesome.
Vinyl rip - a great find at $3.
From the 7-Digital sale thread. Beautiful music, intimidates students when the visit my office.
(Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam)
Speaking of spiritual music...
Signaldrift - Two Agents. Slightly retro-ish synth, Amie find, some really nice tracks.
Sö - November.
Acoustic. Pretty. Free.

Craig
Oh btw, that includes more or less regular stretches playing with Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver, McCoy Tyner, Milt Jackson....
eta Craig, I don't know Eddie's catalog deeply, but this one is a mother:
