I just noticed that the 66 Kingston Trio tracks are in order from shortest to longest (with the exception of the first song in the set). I search for Kingston Trio, then sorted by tracks and saw the pattern.
This is true for the whole set, after the first three songs they are sorted from shortest to longest. Funny way to arrange things.
Interesting, BT, but I beg to differ - she's actually playing Otis Rush style which is to say turned around and upside down, thickest strings on the bottom - also how Dick Dale plays I believe. Hendrix would turn a righty guitar over but restring it so the thickest strings were at the top, a mirror image. Apparently he could also play it this way after a fashion. I'm suitably impressed with Elizabeth Cotten though, even more so than before, to be able to fingerpick that way.
Speaking of guitars, I like Norah Jones well enough and all but I buy The Little Willies because of Jim Campilongo -
@BT, did you realize The Lilly Brothers are Track 8, The Waves On The Sea, on the Rolled Gold Surf comp? Wee bit of a stretch I think.
And that label's got another 10 comps coming 8/21 on Amazon - 101 (fill in blah blah) Classics. We'll see but it's downhill from 251. That beats this No Longer Available In Your Country eMu classic by one -
Sorry, I always thought that Hendrix kept the original stringing, just flipping the instrument upside down.
Watching some videos on Youtube, I believe that the inverting tuning helped Cotten quite a bit. Most Carolina finger pickers--blues and country--tend to use two fingers, the thumb playing bass and the middle or index finger picking the melody. The result is a striding bass and smooth melody, the two not blending together as it would with three-finger styles. Cotten kept to that sound, but used three fingers. The advantage was that she could relegate her middle finger to picking the bass line while alternating on thumb and index for the meleody. She would still "pinch" notes. The melody became more fluid, but the bass did not dominate.
Fallopian Tubes and New Weird Australia - Gloss and Moss. I'm really digging this free Australian comp - see the free stuff thread for a link to this and lots of other free comps. There's a review of this one at TMT too.
NYOP at Bandcamp. This is a cassette release, and trust me, you don't want to see the full length cover. Enjoyable listen though if you're in the mood for something loud and garage-y.

66 tracks of Kingston Trio. Now that I have them all tagged properly.....
Being the entirety of Bluegrass at the Roots 1961
Nice selection from an unfairly neglected group.

I absolutely love this album... listened to it more than a couple time over the past couple days.
Ahhhhhh. So good. I love me some good old 'boom-bap'.

Listening to most of them in a row, I still like this Marconi Union album best. The others are good too though.
Latest from the Drip.FM Morr channel. Great stuff.
Bliss.
Quiet here today.
(Notice she played Hendrix-style before Hendrix?)

This is rapidly growing on me. How I live Iceland. It's got to be one of my favorite places I've never been.
Really good.

- With no hesitation added to my best of 2012 list . . .
So far I've picked up 4 from the amazon hip hop sale. I think I can live without the Biggie album. For now.
