I just stumbled across this 1994 release. No, he's not the singer Aretha Franklin or James Carr were, but he's damn good and this is a very good album. It sounds like a Memphis version of Delbert McClinton.
From the good old Amie Street days and the fantastic Austrian label, Mosz:
September Collective has been formed by Stefan Schneider [To Rococo Rot, Mapstation], Barbara Morgenstern and Paul Wirkus in 2002.
- "In 2002 we were on a tour in Poland, everyone of us with our solo-projects [Paul Wirkus, Mapstation and Barbara Morgenstern]. After we played our sets we found it senseless to end up a concert just like this and we started to improvise in the end of our show. Although everyone of us works with loops and computers it worked out perfectly. So we continued after this tour and founded September Collective - a project wich is based on improvisation and trying out new things. We released the album "September Collective" on Geographic in 2004." http://www.mosz.org/septembercollective.html
Humberto Luis Schenone - Um Perto II / Cosmic Partchworks
- Clinical Archives (ca364) (March 8, 2010)
- "All tracks composed, played* & recorded by Humberto Luis Schenone.
Recorded at 'Living Records Studios' Buenos Aires - Argentina
*Instruments played: udus(several kinds), wooden frog, kalimbas, berimbau, tamborim, congas, frame drum, marimba, seeds, electronic instruments, etc.
Humberto Luis Schenone was born in Buenos Aires on September 6th 1955. Since his childhood had some school trouble for his pleasure of beating over anything, making 'candombe-batucada'. Graduated as psychologist in 1985, he dedicated himself to his professional activities and for some time, to study Spanish guitar.
In 1990 he assumed his role in music as percussionist. After different periods travelling and living in Brazil, he settled a house 30 kms away from Buenos Aires where he built his first 'percussion-room' and started his studies of afro-american rhythms with several important teachers.
He has been part of several bands related with afro-percussion, bossa nova, samba, salsa, rock, south-american folk, tango, etc. Nowadays, again in Buenos Aires, he works on his solo project CD collections: 'Human Tracks', 'The Rhythms of Life I & II', 'Human Fights', etc. , dedicates part of his time to the construction of ceramic udus and participates as guest musician in different groups."
The Italian Frames Collective again: Clinical Archives (ca379) (May 18, 2010)
- "Too Late For Ice Cream?" is the result of a recording session with Sandro Marinoni, Stefano Roncarolo and Vittorio Gallione on guitar and guitar synth."
- Another goodie from the Italian Frames Collective: Clinical Archives (ca411) (November 28, 2010)
- "The Rainmaker" is the result of a collaboration with Sandro Marinoni on flute, Stefano Roncarolo on bass and Humberto Luis Schenone on percussions."
Doofy - Very influential, guitar based noise rock from Portland, OR in the 70s and 80s. Most known now for being a major influence on a young Kurt Cobain. They get compared a lot to bands like Velvet Underground not so much in style (although there are a few similarities), but because while they weren't famous at the time "everyone who heard them started a band." Happily, the music holds up like a VU or Modern Lovers.
@Craig & Doofy... The Wipers are awesome! I discovered them about 8-9 years ago. If you want to buy any of their stuff I recommend you buy it directly from Greg Sage's/The Wiper's official website so he/they get the most monetary return on your purchase (that's where I got my box set of their 1st three albums).

Completely lives up to the hype.
Via $1 used vinyl.
I can't recommend the Box Set highly enough. Each album, while a little different from each other, is fantastic.
