i bought this a while back after a rec on here from someone and liking the samples then I did not like it as much as I hoped and ignored it for a while with a bit of buyer's remorse, but now that I am more distanced from the transaction I actually rather like it!

"DESACCORDES is a current musical ensemble led by the French bass player and composer Erik BARON. The band includes no less than seven classical guitarists (Among whom a certain Philippe CAUVIN), nine electrical guitarists, seven bass-player (Among whom the Master of Ceremonies and the member of MINIMUM VITAL Eric REBEYROL), a harpist, two cellists (Among whom Serge KORJANEVSKI), a drummer and a percussionnist (The former PSEU keyboards player Thierry JARDINIER). With their second opus "In C" (2005), DESACCORDES aims at reproducing the famous eponymous work composed in 1964 by Terry RILEY. This quite original transcription has been given the form of a classical symphony, an originality still reinforced by the use of electric instruments. This is the ideal opportunity to discover again this masterpiece of music of the XXth Century."

  • A few pages back in the thread we were talking about opera. I was saying how I don't have any in my collection (unless you count Evita). Just a moment ago a song came up on my music player that I forgot about. Turns out while I don't have any opera I do have a disc by an opera singer: Mario Frangoulis - "Sometimes I Dream". Which reminds me that I do have some Mario Lanza (mostly because my Mom is a fan).

  • V/Vm - The Death Of Rave (A partial flashback)

The Social History group of our local U3A (University of the Third Age) is doing a series titled That was the Decade That Was (GP may get the reference, but he might be too young) about the 1960s. I've been asked to do a session on music of the 1960s. So as part of my research I'm now trying to compile a playlist to illuminate some of the trends I'm trying to relate to the wider history of the decade. Some of the music I'm listening to I am enjoying, some I think why did that sell?
  • Greg here's a resource you might find helpful.

Tough to talk about music in the 60's without talking about the war. This list of songs, is organized around the various themes related to the war (likely more than you want to know):

Thanks dataGuy.For us in the UK the Vietnam War was much less of an issue, but still relevant to the music of the time, so I'll certainly follow up.

Drone is about all my brain can handle right now. Weird day today. Last night my body decided to say 'nope, not going to do that changing time zones thing' and I was awake until 5:30. After a couple of hours' sleep I made a pilgrimage to the burial place of Comenius (my hero), and now I am at a conference where two hours ago I learned at 15 minutes' notice that as well as the plenary speech I knew about that happens an hour from now, I had also been scheduled to teach a workshop on the pedagogy of Bernard of Clairvaux. Somehow this had escaped my attention. Fortunately it appears I can do that without sleep. Next ambition: not to yawn all the way through my own plenary.

I wouldn't be a fly if Bernard was around, still he did like fresh milk ;-)
