@djh Good stuff. I hadn't seen those Kidd Jordan albums before, nor the Fred 'Birdhouse' album you posted the other day. Checking out that one, I learned he had a club called Birdhouse up here in the neighborhood...Before my time, and back when the hood was a a bit shakier than it is now. Also realized I don't know of any album under Hamid's name, with him as 'leader'.

Funny what you learn by accident. Hamid Drake's first two albums back in 1978 (Mandingo Griot Society w/ Don Cherry and others) and Fred Anderson Quintet's Another Quintet list him by I guess his birth name Hank Drake. He'd converted to Hamid by the time of the next album which I've also just picked up (sorry if I mentioned it earlier) Dark Day & Live in Verona (Fred Anderson Quartet). Nice to hear about the Birdhouse club, you hear so much about the Velvet Lounge and all that; it's wrong to identify most working musicians by just one scene.
“Death Tricheco was a trio that existed in Venice, Italy from 1988 to 1992. In those four years they recorded hours of music in their home studio at the Canaletto House onto two dusty old tape decks. Their gear included shitty casios, toy drum machines, old multi effects units, anything they could get on the cheap or that was lying around. They only “officially” released three tapes, and even those only existed in editions of 20 that were handed out to friends.”
“Hit Parade Estate is one of the tapes they recorded in 1989 that never made it past the master. It’s the kinda stuff that makes us go wild, lose our mind over here. The tape’s all over the place, man, it’s runnin loose. Filled with sloppy keys, muttered vocals, hiss, strange rhythms, squibbles, squirms and the occasional “real” instrument. It doesnt even sit still enough for you to pin it with a genre tag, which is just how we like it. It fits so well on OJC you’ll forget it was recorded 25 years before we existed.”

Demdike Stare's 2010 release Voices of Dust. Pilfered from online but I ended up buying the 3cd comp Tryptych which contains this album.

Various - Reflections
Very good sample of what is available
I should thank Doug Shulkind of WFMU/Give the Drummer Radio for turning me from someone who knew the odd track into a real fan of Yusef Lateef.
