Live At The Hacienda. '83 / '86; 11.08.83 / 19.02.86. Ps. Just a note - this is the absolute worst recording of a live album, ever! I keep forgetting just how bad it is and yet I still keep it. Disc 2 is slightly better than disc 1.
David Ross Lawn is releasing his debut EP, Songs of the Sun. He is one of our most emerging composers and following in the footsteps of Nils Frahm, but still with his own unique style.
By defying traditions and exploring the boundaries of what Modern/Classical/21century music is David creates sonic landscapes and explores architectures of the moment. His music brings the listener on a contemplative journey where the sound reaches deeper into ones own cradle.
The start of the sonic journey is initiated by the beautiful piano composition Rising, it opens the door to the following tender track Flying, Floating, Falling deepening it's path into Sanctuary and finally ends up with A Conversation Between Lovers. A more beautiful set of piano compositions are yet to be found.
Released by: Kning Disk EP release date: 26 January 2018
I'm on the look-out for more Hamid Drake if anyone has recommendations; I mainly just have the stuff he's done with William Parker. This one moves from serene through the blues and on to skronk pretty effortlessly. (A good thing!)
@djh Here are a couple featuring Hamid with the late great Fred Anderson, mentor to a generation on the Chicago scene. "From the River to the Ocean" is a special favorite. Also a duo with Kidd Jordan that I recently discovered. There are more where this came from, if you're interested...

Thanks for the reply @Doofy I've realised for quite some time that I should have some Fred Anderson and Kidd Jordan in my life. Not sure how helpful Emusic will be in this but I'll scoop up what I can. In the meantime I dug around an old external drive and found this choice little number.. That's the late great Peter Kowald on bass.
(From a different external drive; let's hope they all keep working long enough to sort them out and back them up properly!) another Anderson / Drake colab.B)
