  • Here - Teenage Fanclub

One of those albums you don't really play when you get it but after a few months comes a regular play

  • More Kahil El'Zabar, with Ari Brown alongside this time. Dwight Trible vocals on the title track above.

Prof, you are all over those ACT releases. I impulse-bought 'Belle-Epoque' on your recommendation the other day, very enjoyable.

@djh I have tried a few times to find my way into Mary Halvorson's music and have always failed. Right now, this one is helping me find a way in - I am quite enjoying it. Thanks!
  • More Dwight:

  • @Doofy glad you liked Belle Époque - I was just listening to it (and loving it) again. That stimulus combined with the current better-than-usual emusic booster sale has had me taking my collection of European accordion jazz from almost nothing (there was that one other album with Parisien and Peirani, Out of Land, in my top 20 last year) to a bunch very quickly!
  • @Doofy Thanks for the Kahil El'Zabar tips, the links didn't work for me but I've set about all the Emu albums I didn't have (and noted lots more interesting tacks that are available on YouTube GB).

@Germanprof You are welcome both those albums by MH are good entry points if the atonal gnarly stuff grates. Looking forward to her new vocal project (an expanded version of the Thumbscrew band).

And just to set me up for work

Which features MH amongst a host of others in a big band making what my mother called "ramsamy" music (noisy, messed up!)

  • The Nels Cline Four is the quartet extrapolation of Nels`duo work with guitarist Julian Lage.
Adding the rhythm section of bassist Scott Colley and drummer Tom Rainey, the Four will endeavor to probe the inner and outer reaches of the guitar-driven jazz quartet, playing music written by Nels as well as some gems by Jimmy Giuffre and Attila Zoller. Eschewing Nels`propensity for effects-laden sounds and looping in favor of unfettered tones, the Four will interpret and improvise in a conversational, relatively low-volume, and thoroughly modernistic manner.
  • Original
    Dreamy.
    And here's a free version.

  • Listening to a playlist where I mixed together the Grateful Dead from 1978-02-03 with Leyland Kirby’s Sadly the Future No Longer is What it Once Was.

Leads to song transitions like “And Nothing Comes Between the Sadness and the Scream” into “Loser” and “I’ve Hummed this Tune to all the Girls I’ve Known” into “Peggy-O” into “Not as she is now buy as she appears in my dreams”
