1966 Rca Italiana MLDS 20243 - 'Living Stereo' - DYNAGROOVE
Mario Bertoncini: percussions Franco Evangelisti: piano and timpani John Heineman: trombone Roland Kayn: Hammond organ Ennio Morricone: trumpet Jerry Rosen: clarinet Frederic Rzewski: piano ivan Vandor: tenor sax
Released today and I love it! Four tracks, total length 25 minutes. A combination of West Africa Afrobeat and South London Jazz. A week ago I would have downloaded from eMusic, but I got it from 7 Digital instead, as the label, Brownswood, is no longer available there.
As an aside I was going to buy from Bandcamp, UK band on UK label priced in Pounds, but when I got to the checkout the price had been converted to US Dollars with US sales tax added. If I added on what my credit card would have added for non-sterling purchase and conversion back to pounds it would have at least doubled the price. I've never seen that before at Bandcamp when I buy UK priced music.
Currently listening to what could be called "cookie music." Basically, I'm using software that translates cookies into sound as you browse. So, some websites have huge numbers of and attempts at placing cookies and so the sound becomes more complex while visiting those sites. I'm gonna add some sound "extenders" of some sort that keeps things evolving in mostly subtle ways, so I don't have to feel tied to a browser. Time to clean house and pack some more boxes while listening to the results.
Inspired by her love for the music and lore of Appalachia, Julia Wolfe based her text for Steel Hammer (called a “wild hybrid” by the New York Times) on over 200 versions of the “John Henry” ballad, which has been recorded by everyone from Johnny Cash to Bruce Springsteen. A runner-up for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, Steel Hammer features the alternately haunting and whimsical vocalizations of Norway’s renowned Trio Mediaeval, and stretches the standard instrumentation of the Bang on a Can All-Stars with wooden bones, mountain dulcimer, banjo, clapping, clogging and more.
Comments
