By the way, it is on the Roaratorio label which has some really good albums particularly some by Joe McPhee plus, strangely, a great 60s psychedelic/progressive rock album, "Elephant Ball" by Crystal Syphon.
Hearts & Livers: Global Recordings from 78rpm Discs, ca. 1928-53, on Bandcamp. This combines two interests, World music (esp. middle eastern) and scratchy old 78s. The tracks in this collection are not all that scratchy, but it is a fine collection of voices from around the world.
Chang Fo Ji are small plastic boxes with various Buddhist loops available throughout China and Tibet.
Working with batteries, the small speaker can blast from poppy modern Chinese buddhist prayers to ancient recordings of famous tibetan buddhist masters. They can be taken everywhere for the listener to immerse himself into the minimalist and hypnotising world of buddhist prayers… Both sides on this record contain various loops from various CHANG FO JI gathered in China by Laurent Jeanneau (KINK GONG) between 2006 and 2011.
Well, a most Happy Easter to all. The northern family has just left after a terrific brunch and a check-in with the south reveals things are going great. We'll clean-up later. I see some of my Icelandic Poppies are stirring to life so this is a perfect time for these. I'm hoping the Oriental survives last fall's move. I can't wait to get started- listless and not so tired. Given that I've a little more time to waste today...
I got this from Emusic (track metadata says 7Digital) and I've only now realised that a couple of the shorter tracks are missing, they are also grouped differently to the cd (according to Wikki) hmm...
Looks to be the last two tracks Prayer improv and Great Spirit - just over 12 minutes of music. Why would anyone do that when the cd box set is well out of print? Bandcamp is the same 44 tracks rather than 46.
Sorry I guess this is of interest to no-one but me, though it does make you wonder what other holes your digital library might have.
Over the years I've been fortunate to be introduced to many great Dutch bands, starting with (probably) The/Nits. I've really enjoyed Daryll-Ann and recently added a few singles, plus found Excelsior Recordings still has 589 albums in Canada. Lot's more exploring to do!
Reviews:
"Judging from this album, it was a stroke of genius to match Tom Cora's
earthy, aggressive cello with the bludgeoning force of The Ex at full
throttle."
"You're thinking of The Ex and "the right to piss and shit in different
colours"... Their music is dense and down-the-line, distantly allusive,
subtle, grainy, open, full and proudly, alertly dissident."
"An intensely moving soundtrack for our times. "Scrabbling" has blood,
sweat, tears and the sweetest sounding cello money can buy."
Just because it's lovely and sunny in London I am of course making a stew and listening to this which at the very least is simmering or possibly on a slow boil! Nice version of Coltrane's Naima even if he does only touch on the melody.

Hatched in the Minneapolis underground, John Saint-Pelvyn developed anidiosyncratic & very personal approach to guitar. Fragmenting folk & blues landscapes slashed through by theremin squelches & otherworldly vocal outbursts "like songs for the dead astronauts of tranquilly basin sung by cats and rare birds. Very nostalgic in their small way, but yearning for a past only reached by going forward"
