Just heading off to beautiful Lorne on the Great Ocean Road (Victoria, Australia) to enjoy the sun and surf for our Anzac Day holiday.
So what better than to listen to our great local band, The Beachniks album "Trombone Bay". The best tracks to try are "One Afternoon", Safari Suit Suite" and "The Sound of 67".
1981 The Raybeats - Guitar Beat 1983 The Raybeats - It's Only A Movie "Several of The Raybeats were involved in avant-garde, punk and no-wave bands before they formed the group; the drummer Don Christensen and the guitarist Jody Harris were members of The Contortions, and Pat Irwin, saxophonist, guitarist, bassist and organist, was with Eight Eyed Spy.The original Raybeats bassist, George Scott, was a key figure in The Contortions and Eight Eyed Spy as well. His work with these bands was forward looking and influential, but he also collected recordings of rock-and-roll instrumentals and surf music and played an important role in orienting his fellow musicians toward that relatively neglected style. When he died suddenly last year, The Raybeats replaced him with Danny Amis, who had been playing lead guitar in a young surf-music band in Minneapolis." NYT from June 19, 1981
Originally composed for belly dancer in Tokyo, using my "Al-Noor"
processing techniques. There's a lot going on under the skin of the
music. I'm thinking about reviving and revising it for an upcoming tour
of the UK and Europe.
Small excerpt of new work to be premiered July 2018 London
The last time I looked this was still available at eMusic. Daniel is part of the growing young jazz scene in the UK
Award winning bassist and composer Dan Casimir has become a regular fixture within the UK jazz scene providing his heavy weight upright sound for the likes of Julian Joseph, Jason Rebello, Lonnie Liston Smith, Ashley Henry, Camilla George and Nubya Garcia to name a few. Dan Casimir plays with passion and power that shines through not only in his compositions but also in the energy he brings to his live performances. ‘Escapee’ features fellow rising stars on the scene, Moses Boyd, Joe Armon-Jones, Shirley Tetteh and features vocalist Tess Hirst
I have had a lot of trouble getting internet access this week, but my main listening activity the other day was listening to a whole string of Marillion albums on the bullet train from Xuzhou to Beijing. I feel like I should have been listening to something Chinese, but maybe this was subconsciously a strategy for mitigating culture stress (most of the countries where I go regularly I have at least some linguistic foothold, but not here. It has been fun but busy and I am weary.) Tomorrow I have a 13 hour flight home to listen to stuff.
