    The Stranger

Billy Joel 70 today. This is just about my favourite album, though it does not have Piano Man on it. I do love Phil Woods sax playing, especially Just the Way You Are

Have you recovered yet, Lowlife? Of course we watched the game. Our poor dog hid behind the sofa with all the shouting!! (For those who do not follow, Lowlife's team won an amazing soccer game last night with a goal six minutes into added time, having been 3 down at half time)

@greg I love these old jazz solos in pop tunes. Two more famous ones by Phil Woods:

Oh his next album, Billy Joel was joined by Freddy Hubbard:

  • @Doofy, thanks I knew the Paul Simon one, but not the Steely Dan track. One of my favourite tracks with a sax solo is Baker Street, by Gerry Rafferty. I'll have to find out who played that sax - Raphael Ravenscroft is the answer, a British session musician

Sounding somewaht more interesting than the SF Exploitation cover would have you believe. The film passed me by - as in fact most do.

  • Thanks Greg, it was an amazing night, they don't come round that often. The final is my wife's birthday and a special one at that. We will party here but Chas and Dave might be added to the playlist
  • A friend persuaded me to buy a ticket to a Steve Hackett concert in October, so not really being familiar with his music I have been starting to do my homework. We agreed to intensively listen to an album a week chronologically. This one really came together for me on the fifth listen.

This is too remarkable to leave it to possible listening thread oblivion:

    - "Wowsie wow, Delia Derbyshire's longest known recording, made with artist Elsa Stansfield. Never released until right here right now. This is an electronic score with ambient environmental sounds, birdsong, sound design, all from a killer art house movie made about Pamela Bone's amazing photographic glass slides. Derbyshire fans will be quick to notice her classic "lampshade" vibes. This is the clear vinyl edition, you can also buy the digital version here to."

Circle of Light - The Photography Of Pamela Bone

    - "This film without words is composed of Pamela Bone's unique photograhic transparencies. Her talent has been said to 'push photography beyond its own limits, liberating it to the status of an entirely creative art form.` Inspired by nature, and being more responsive to feeling than to thought, Miss Bone has sought to express the mystery and beauty of the inner vision through photographic means alone: landscape has the quality of a dream; children on the sea-shore have a sense of their own enchantment, trees are forboding and strange when night moves in their arms. It took Miss Bone twenty years to find the right technique and so overcome the limitations that photography would impose."
