Benjamin Finger - Into Light
Benjamin Finger / James Plotkin / Mia Zabelka
The latter is on Karlrecords I went to listen to it again after reading the review (I've seen Zabelka play live and tend to follow her projects) despite the fact I had only streamed the album once Karlrecords must have a play or time limit as it wouldn't let me stream again. "Buy or go away" in effect, if you press not now the little emoticon heart breaks. Of course I did end up buying it but haven't seen that sales gimmick on Bandcamp before. Anyone else?
Both albums though certainly different belong to the drone / sound sculpture continuum.
Slipstick Invention built out. A Kyma sound, or patch, is not just a
sound. At the hart of this sound the slipstick model is carefully
calculated. The parameters of stiffness and friction are mathematical
balanced creating musical and rhythmic sentences. The next challenge is
creating a story. By using a pattern generator and ring modulator this
force of gravity is shaped into movements of timbre placed in a 3D
field.
