Rats, foiled by the rain again and only one week before our annual Canada Day party. I might
have spent too much time digging and moving plants than I should. Oh well, it's off the rotation and
onto the alphabet, maybe Eva can make the sun shine.

  • I've just skimmed through nearly 3 weeks of music since I was last here. Several albums I'll follow up, though a sign of the times it will be on Spotify not eMusic. I bought this today

    Western Stars

As usual with the Boss I bought the CD, and, of course, I like it!!

  • Well worth the listen. Lateef went to Nigeria in the 80s to teach, and made this recording with "students and local musicians." The same Bandcamp page has a 1966 live recording at Ronnie Scotts, which I will get to next...

Ten years ago today Michael Jackson died. Given recent revelations should I be still be listening to his music? I'm really not sure....

  • Scat singing pianists start the day as we hurtle towards my week long holiday in Copenhagen this coming Sunday.

I will of course be reporting back from the War Pigs bar at some point ;-)
Anywhere that isn't the sheer horror of Glastonbury is fine.

  • Best of

Just been into a supermarket and saw this for sale as an LP for £22, seems an enormous price to me. I first had this as an LP about 50 years ago. I got rid of it, probably 15 or so years ago - I have all the tracks from other CDs. Now listening to it on Amazon Prime, something we would never have even imagined possible when I purchased the LP

  • Diz looking resplendent. Excellent all-star recording from late in his career

  • ^^ Thanks !

Oliver Barrett returns with his first Petrels album in three years; The Dusk Loom. Having put out a steady album-a-year since 2011, culminating in 2016’s Jörð, Barrett decided to take a step back from the project for a while, not wanting to releasing albums out of habit and wanting to be sure that there was something new to say. . . . .

  • Bartk Works for Violin and Piano Vol 1

One of the old Classical Shop freebies? Sounds great, in any case
  • This weekend's Cuneiform deal, being a double set me back over $8 but it is more than worth it! WLS leads two groups unsurprisingly the second larger more electric ensemble has 73-75 Miles writen all over it. Fine fine stuff for a sunny afternoon in swealtering South London.

  • Message To Bears - "Departures"
-Revisiting this album that I picked up way back when (either an Amie St. purchase or an eMusic purchase back when the welcome screen would give you a huge rectangle of tiny album cover images that were recommendations based on past purchases).  Some beautiful ambient-folk.

    Henning Christiansen - Op.166 Rødhætte / Ruinmusik
    Released April 26, 2018
Two previously unreleased works from the late Danish composer, musician, publisher, artist and performer Henning Christiansen.
Rødhætte (1985) is a rendition of Little Red Riding Hood featuring Ursula Reuter Christiansen as narrator. All the hallmarks of Henning’s unique approach to music/sound appear as the tale goes deeper into the depths of animalistic frenzy.
Ruinmusic (1984) inhabits the last breath off the piano housed within the former Marienborg Manor, an estate once on the Danish island of Møn. Prior to the destruction of the estate Henning Christiansen played a final haunting melody before the instrument was dumped down in the dirt.

  • Wahoo, that's a hell of a noise. Sort of punk noise vs electronics vs some kind of Tunisian ritual music. One of several interesting things on last week's Bandcamp best of 2019 so far list
