Well, I'm still playing catch-up. I've been looking forward to getting to this as I've become a Zeena Parkins fan thanks to you Emusers. The Balustrade Ensemble 2015 Renewed Brilliance Grant Miller: Compositions, guitar Scott Solter: Recording, mixing, tinted vapors Liam Singer: Piano, organ Wendy Allen: Voice Erik Friedlander: Cello Monika Warchol: French horn Zeena Parkins: Harp Matt Henry Cunitz: Vintage manuals
That was certainly worth the wait. Just terrific! It made me check out their other release on Bandcamp to see I might find something I could afford. Lucky for me at Ominous Recordings 10 SEK is $1.52 CAD if paid by PayPal. I was kind of surprised to find it there judging by the album covers. At https://thebalustradeensemble.bandcamp.com it's listed for $10 USD. 2007 Capsules Another most enjoyable listen even without Zeena Parkins! Interesting people usually introduce you to other interesting folks.
Yeah, Not all of the Lake Radio shows are great - kinda like some stations like WFMU or Ubu or SomaFM, etc., but there's some variety in that show like the Dur Dur Band or XTC or Lucrecia Dalt, et al. that keeps things interesting around the house.
Culpeper's Orchard s/t. Excellent Prog Rock from the early 70s.
Best tracks "Mountain Music Part 1", "Mountain Music Part 2" and "Your Song & Mine".
Thanks to @rostasi for pointing us to the great sampler album "Living On The Hill A Danish Underground Trip 1967-1974" which includes this and other top Danish Prog Rock bands of the era.
Really in the mood for The Doors today - see separate new discussion "Favourite Rock Albums from the late 60s and early 70s".
The Doors live recordings weren't always great, particularly towards The End (get the pun!). However earlier ones such as "Live at the Bowl '68" really give you a feel for what a fabulous band they were.
To quote All Music Guide "It’s a tight, musically impressive, well-paced set that falls at that sweet spot in The Doors' career, between the laid-back hesitancy of early club performances..... and the often overblown, strident, and bluesy improvisation of later gigs".
