It's all good, but this late + mellow Clifford Jordan album on Soul Note is one of my favorites. I wholly agree with the laudatory Ken Dryden review at Allmusic, but was amused to note his concluding pan of the liner notes: "The only downside to this release is the self-serving liner notes by the enormously egocentric Stanley Crouch." I only own this on digital, so guess I'll never know what Crouch got into to earn that kind of disdain.
@jonahpwll Always enjoy following up on your Ambient and Ambient-adjacent recommendations
Was just listening to those earlier today. I really enjoy those recordings. I'd have to confirm, but I think maybe I was turned onto them via a Brighternow rec.
Just finished up + Now Listening:
Benjamin Koppel – “The Adventures of a Polar Expedition”
I have to say that this is some of the most horrific sounding stuff - almost unlistenable, but a slice of the real struggles that these people have to go thru...
syntheticopia by zakè & ossa Spacey/airy synth loops mixed (according to the notes) with sound recordings and radio emissions captured by various NASA spacecraft. Sounds FANTASTIC on headphones. Great stuff. I hesitated over buying this one, but Bandcamp Friday swayed me and I am glad it did.
This is one of those albums that kind of sits there in my library and I see it when scanning for something to play but I never choose it... because I don't know why. Maybe because it doesn't spark any real memories, like a mental preview clip that would trigger me to hit the play button. I'm not sure why some albums in my library are seen but never played. But when I do hit the play button on "Cave in the Sky," invariably I am reminded of how gorgeous it is and confounded I don't play it more often.
Lush ambient sounds, very much in the category of "music for falling snow."
I think this may have been one of my final eMUSIC purchases or, possibly, not that long ago on BC. It's released on 1631 Recordings, which I scoured kind of heavily after digging into the catalog of that Library Tapes dude (who, I think, is the one who started this label). I've found some nice stuff on 1631, and this album is a nice example of the loveliness it has to offer.
