Amy Beach - Quartet For Strings (In One Movement), Op.89 (link to YouTube). beautiful minimalist, based on Inuit melodies. I heard it on Exploring MusicwithBill McGlaughlin on NPR last night.
Thanks for the Intermediate Frequencies link. It's the last weekend of the festival and I'm looking forward to the Otomo Yoshihide concert on the last night as well as Jörg Köppl installation (he started out the festival).
It's been a great journey that's introduced me to a lot of new people and organizations doing really interesting work. It's funny that many of the people that I recognized and looked forward to hearing (People Like Us; Haco; Chris Cutler; AGF; Felix Kubin, a.o.) actually produced the least interesting work when compared to these other "new" voices.
Well, let me say what a terrific day this was. I spent time with an old favourite this morning and when it warmed up enough for these old bones to handle it, I had lots of fun getting this years compost piles started. We had friends over this afternoon to celebrate the equinox and although today started off rather cool and very windy, come cocktail hour a clear blue sky with a slight breeze getting up to 19C was just perfect. I think these will be a perfect ending to just a perfect day. I'm not sure, but I think it might have been brittleblood (68 stationwagon) who directed me here but my thanks go out to whom ever that was. Most enjoyable listen!! World's End Girlfriend Ending Story NYOP Hurtbreak Wonderland NYOP Seven Idiots NYOP Last Waltz NYOP
ps Just a note for those unfortunate folks on the East Coast that are in the complete opposite conditions and having their lives torn apart by this hurricane. I'm thinking good thoughts for you and our friends living there.
So, after 100 days of exploring the wonderful world of "Radio Art Zone," I'm jumping into another extended listen - but not nearly as long. This 12 disc bad boy showed up during the marathon of sound and I'm just now getting to uploading it to iTunes. Of course, nobody has yet to annotate it in the CDDB, so that's what I'm doing now.
Bloom by Ian Hawgood + Stijn Hüwels One of those pieces that perfectly illustrates the rewards of enforced patience. Takes an hour to unfold from almost no sound, and is worth the journey.
On holiday in Greece and all these great new discoveries as I sit on the beach listening to music! That is whilst I am not busy exploring extraordinary ruins from the Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian eras!
Today, thanks to @rostasi, it’s Day of Phoenix, Atila and Marian Varga.
