First album from Minnesota popsters formerly known as The Olympic Hopefuls till the USOC threatened to sue them for copyright infringement. The original bassist (who played on this album) is now in Tapes 'n Tapes.
We're only 1/3 of the way through March and my Amie Folder already has almost 100 items. Even listening to 3-4 albums a day at work doesn't allow me to keep up. Of course, the big Warp drop didn't help much...
Yup -about 85% albums, most of the rest EPs. The end of month lists are just too much work for me - I tried compiling one once, but after 2 hrs I still only had about half the albums listed.
Between Amie, eMu, Lala, 7digital, etc, I've been averaging in the neighborhood of 100 albums a month for the last two years. I'm seriously thinking of putting my eMu accounts on hiatus to play catch-up. It's hard to stop when the music is so cheap.
I estimate that my per track cost at Amie is about 2 cents a track (and that's inflated, since on any given week I buy 5 or 6 $2-$4 albums, which skews that average.)
Or perhaps three heads with six ears would help. I'm not making a lot of those lists myself because I'm too far behind in my listening. The only way I have a clue what came from where is that I maintain master playlists on iTunes, like eMusic, All Amazon, Amie, etc. Someday I'll retire....unless that intervention happens first. And I'll run out of crack cards which I'm hoarding for the moment.
I agree this is a busy month, I am at 102 albums this month (although a couple of those are from 2/27). I got most of the Naxos, what wasn't free I bought cheaply enough. Some gems in that mini-flood. The surprise highlight of the month so far is Janka Nabay. I did discover that I missed one Fela Kuti, so that is not a recent dload.
Highlights today: Hendrix, Titus Andronicus and Josh Rouse (paid for them, but Rouse was cheap and I made at least that much on REC's today), but I got Aloha, Astronauts of Antiquity, and Cate LeBon for free. Today's REC's pushed me over 20K, thrilled I am.
I just did a quick check of the number of albums I've gotten from AmieStreet over each of the past couple months and I think I'm right up there with Frog & Plong in an embarrassing overabundance of digital media. I was thinking about letting my eMu sub expire when it comes up for renewal this fall due to the fact that I've already got way more than I'll every really ever get around to listening and enjoying properly, but then they got the Warner catalog and associated labels and there's alot of good stuff there that I'd like to have, but then I did the aforementioned monthly totaling of my AmieStreet activity and think I really need to give my self a timeout.
Back on Topic: Did anyone else get the Gordon Gano album when it hit AmieStreet a while back? It came around on my car's mp3 player this morning on the way into work and it is definitely in the upper quadrant of my overall AmieStreet library. Still under $4.00 (barely - $3.98).
I just listened through the new Titus Andronicus twice, and let me say that is a great album. I love the "old" voices reading between songs, very evocative. It is, however, depressing. Since I have also been listening to the new David Bazan album, I need something a bit more cheery. Usually fun. does the trick.
I will point out this gem, David Hidalgo and Louie Perez, still less that $4. Los Lobos fans are going to want this, but it has a nice rock sound, with a healthy helping of Austin / Tex Mex.
I hate when I do that. The worst was JBM. Got the album free and, after listening to samples, decided to REC the 2nd track. Everything else went to $0.98, that one stayed as a freebie...
I only rec'ed them because amclark did. Peer pressure....Sometimes the promo goes off and they shoot up to 98cents, but not always. Something to hope for, anyway.
I just noticed that a new single from Coheed and Cambria is on AmieStreet for free. Reasonably good prog if you get into that sort of thing, but to me the interesting thing is that this is a Sony 2010 release used as a promo for AmieStreet.
Man, oh man. The Sharon Van Etten album is absolutely incredible. Her voice is able to capture so much truth and emotion. Plus, I'm a big fan of hers because she did the backing vocals on a few of the tracks on the Antlers amazing album Hospice.
I highly, highly recommend her work.
And while you're at it, download her song, "Love More" for free. It is my most listened to song on iTunes. It kind of drones at first, but then it captured me. It's one of the most beautiful songs I know.

No wonder you never post on the end of month download threads!

look at any album page and you're likely to find Plong, luddite and me in the recent listeners list and/or amongst the RECs.

It might even still be free. [Update: Nevermind. Free-ness ended quick. That said, it's still a great price.]
