I'll have to admit that I've picked up a dozen or more albums after listening to the samples of something that was RECd by someone I know.
In these cases, the album that was still going for around 20 cents a track or so and it was obvious that the person making the REC was doing so because they liked the album. The street cred money aspect certainly skews what gets RECd. I've done my share of RECing on things that I knew would make money, but I also spend about half my RECs on things that won't go too high, simply because I like them.
I'm not half and half, but I do make an effort to drop a REC now and then on stuff I know won't make much money but that I genuinely want to recommend.
lots dropping at the moment... Fela (i'm thinking this is a compilation so there may not be anything new to get actually) My Morning Jacket
Is this one of the Avett brothers?
Jim Lauderdale - Patchwork River currently only $2.86. I'm listening now, it is excellent, if you like that rootsy Americana / alt-country sort of thing.
I am pretty sure all the tracks on Fela Kuti - No Poi are from the earlier EP drop, at least the few I checked were. I would be pissed if there was one track that was album only that I didn't have already. Actually, that would be my invitation to procure it through alternative means.
Diddlysquat for 2 days then while I'm at lunch some real records - at least the Lauderdale was still $3-something when I got it. I took a chance on the new Elizabeth Cook also. More free Prose In Rosette at least.
I've been grabbing most of the Warp releases today. Haven't got anything free yet, but 16 cents a track isn't bad.
I hope they don't drop too much today, since I'm running low on credit and want to save as much as possible for the middle of the night drop. I'm trying to force myself not to add any real money until next payday.
Guess I shouldn't have spent $16 on Crimson Razorback releases this weekend....
Are you sure about that? Nettwerk has been on Amie long before Sony, and their releases still start free. Some of their releases may have different licensing issues, but the first 2 Weepies started free.
DANG! I waited until around 3pm for albums to drop and then left to do laundry/run errands, so I missed the big drop by about an hour.
Amie has a handful of templates that the seller can use to price their albums. I posted an outline of the ones I've noticed about a year ago, either here or at eMu.
Metropolis has picked the pricing plan where the first sale goes for 16 cents a track, the second for 22 cents a track, the third 29 cents a track. After that, it goes up more slowly - 1-2 cents per track for every sale. In short, if something is at 16 cents track and you want it, jump on it right away because only 2 sales will more or less double the price. If it is already at 29+ a track, no hurry because each subsequent sale will only raise it a cent or two a track.

(sounds great, btw.)
Anyone seen This?
One should never regret money spent on Crimson Razorback.

The only thing I know about is Band of Horses, but I imagine that will be full price since it's on Columbia.
Not to be incredulous, but is that even possible?

ETA: These Metropolis albums are jumping up 5 or 6 cents per tracks with each purchase, it would seem.
I hope nothing more comes down the pipe today--we're starting to get some lightning.
Burning Season by Faith And The Muse...
- Very catchy stuff.

Nobody else rocks the headphones in quite the same way.
Here's hoping Mainstream snaps him up.
