a Jigsaw, a Portuguese "Americana" band is currently free and well worth a listen. Got a nice jingle-jangle alt-country feel, lots of old-timey instruments.
currently free: Deckard Croix
haven't heard much yet, but "demographic" and "ladyfingers" have a do-it-yourselfer feel with some slightly experimental twists and digs.
sort of like Dylan messing around with with melody or Jonathan Richman after learning a few more chords.
currently downloading the other 2 now.
I am surprised this one hasn't been mentioned, given BrighterNow's mention of Steve Reid's passing, but his collaboration with Four Tet's Kieran Hebden, NYC, is just over $2. Very nice organicized version of electronica.
Surprised to see it on a Monday, here's The New Pornographers new album, Together. I was just reading the Rolling Stone's review at lunch, happy to grab in for $4.
Dang I hate it when they release things a day early. I checked the site about 5 minutes before it dropped. Ended up paying about $6.50 Amie money. I guess I can't complain, since that is only about $2.50 real money.
Well, The Hold Steady was maxed out before I even saw it, so here are a couple of smaller albums I snagged that are still at a good price:
Jeremy Messersmith - The Reluctant Graveyard: "Violet!" is an excellent track. Haven't heard the rest of the album yet, but he makes good singer/songwriter music, so I'm sure I'll like it.
The Hitchcock sounds good so far (though I'm still more a fan of the Egyptians' material). It's sad that the album generated no comment from Amie at the bottom, let a place on the right side of the new releases page.
I'm assuming that The Hold Steady record posted at $8.98, because it has no RECs. No reason to buy it at Amie when I just got 10 free credits at eMusic.
The Robyn Hitchcock got so little publicity that I didn't even know it was coming out. Then I bought it early this morning for cheap on Amie and forgot about it again until opening this thread. What the hell?
@thom, nice catch on that BT. I find NMT to be such a clusterfuck on Amiestreet that I rely on y'all and Twitter to give me the heads up so I don't wade through the thousands of Crimson Razoback's...
@elwoodicious - I would recommend at least keeping this link handy. Doesn't help with filtering, but at least you can see what gets bumped from the main page too quickly.
Regarding the BT album that dropped - These Hopeful Machines.
The new one seems to be pretty much the same as the old one. If I did my maths right, Disc "A" on the old one is actually 1 minute and a half longer than the new one. Disc "B" of both have the same running time.
The old one is cheaper 'cause your only paying for 2 tracks rather than 12 tracks, but for that cost savings you lose out on the convenience that the new version provides by breaking out each disc into individual tracks.
@thom, it's my "ooo, shiny" personality that kills me on the Amie releases page, I get bored and distracted too easily to read through it. Same thing with eMu but they have better searching and discovering tools so I find it easier to "crate dive" there
Steve Mason - Boys Outside was mentioned earlier and is currently $3.70. I grabbed it this morning and have played it 5-6 times already since first listening to it during lunch.

funky and jazzy with a few hippity hops along the way, but enough heavy rock twists and noisy left turns to keep the groove unusual.
Reminds me a bit of early Dan Fogelberg, which is not a bad thing.
Bluesy country, skilled songwriting. Under 2 bucks.

Oh well.

Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3 - Propellor Time: Haven't heard anything off it yet, but I figure you can't go wrong with royalty like Mr. Hitchcock.

Any thoughts on this Mike Patton release? Just under 4 bucks still.
Also grabbed Red Trees by Lisa Papineau (over $4), Boys Outside by Steve Mason (under $2.50), new album from The Fall (still under 4 bucks) and a double disc from BT (still under 2).
Sorting through some other drops I found A Balloon Called Moaning by The Joy Formidable. There's a free track from them on Amazon. Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but it's good indie rock.
Federico Crespo's EP1 has a free track, too. Minimal house - good enough for 64 cents. Now I have to investigate that label (Static Discos)
Jason & The Scorchers

Red Water Revival
not sure about this one.....sort of like Thin White Rope clicking between Pink Floyd and Aerosmith using a Leon Russell cursor.

from my emusic review: "Complex jazzy rhythms meets punk/garage skronk meets meter beating heavy prog then returns to finger snapping smoothness"
