Great! Delighted to see those credits, they gave me enough to get this. With Blue Note and ECM, I will have no problem spending whatever credits they choose to give me.
We'll see if I get new "Demo Channel" credits next time I check in. Makes sense, if the goal is to get you to check the site often. The late unlamented Spiral Frog, the last (DRM-packed) attempt at such an advertiser-supported setup, required you to log in every few weeks or so.
I am getting 1 new "demo" credit every day. I use it, and a new one appears the next day. Not sure what happens if I don't use the daily credit, will check.
The credits aren't accumulating for me, but a few days there are two rather than one. If it keeps up, Guvera would become a one credit/day sub. Right now I'm working on getting Juju Muisc by King Sunny Ade.
It appears that you get a new demo credit everyday, but they don't accumulate - it's strictly use it or lose it. Presumably, this is to induce you to visit more often. No doubt they've noticed a pattern of people checking for a few days, not finding any new credits, and then not bothering visiting the site for a long time because there are no freebies. This keeps you checking every day.
On a related note, be sure to use sponsor credits ASAP. I helped a woman at work sign up last month. She got 26 credits to start out with, but couldn't decide what to get, so she didn't download anything right away. A week later she logged back in and only had about 7-8 credits in her account. I guess this make sense that they would claw back credits that aren't being used, since unused credits probably don't make them any money.
Thanks for the heads up on the demo channel. I was waiting for enough credits to d/l an album, too and missed out on a few. But this week I got Discreet Music over the course of 4 days, and am now trying to pick and choose some songs I always liked by never had a copy (first up was Extreme's "Hole Hearted"!). In case you guys haven't checked it out, they redesigned the main page to include new releases and top d/ls. It's starting to shape up.
I've been downloading the bonus tracks from the Radiohead reissues, one at a time. Got 21 tracks from The Bends bonus disc over three weeks and I'm now working on the OK Computer tracks (4 down, 11 to go). Doesn't look like I'll get more than one track a day unless I stay away for a while.
I'm going through Can's discography now. Figure it will go by somewhat fast since most of their albums have 6 or 7 tracks. Listening to "Halleluwah" right now - really awesome music.
Gang of Four is an excellent choice for my next endeavor! I'm getting a little more excited about this. Even though 1 track/day is a pain in the neck, you're talking about 30 free tracks/month. That's more than eMusic gives you for $12/month. Between this, AmieStreet, and possibly a new eMusic annual plan I might actually be back to the level I was before the great Swindleeeeee Schism.
Ditto, I am seeing the possibilities. I am toying with the idea of trying to get the new Ella "Hollywood" box set...it would only take a couple months! Will this deal last that long, is the question.
Alternatively, I may go for this live Ella set, which is of similar vintage and otherwise OOP.

Yep, that is the question. It's not easy finding those great albums with just enough tracks that can be finished in a few days. Currently I'm halfway through Evan Parker's Moment's Energy. If I may not get the entire album, I'm going to make sure it's at least some expensive ECM.
On the homepage there is a "Report a bug" link next to the Guvera Beta logo. It sends an e-mail to support@guvera.com. Haven't had to contact them yet, so I got no clue how responsive they are. Let us know.
I downloaded three or four Cecil Taylor albums, and now I am working on George Russell, Jazz in the Space Age. I notice that most of the tracks I get are completely un-tagged, no artist, track title, etc. It is not all that hard to enter the info, but at the very least there ought to be Artists and tract name.
I've actually had almost the opposite - most of the stuff I've grabbed has been double tagged! "Tago Mago; Tago Mago" by "Can; Can", etc. Weird. Their genre is 20...
It was subsequently waterboarded and died under interrogation. The remains will be returned to you in the diplomatic pouch. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Most of the tracks I have downloaded had "9" for the genre, sometimes that is all the tagging there was!

I think it will likely be something from that era though. Thus far Guvera has gotten me Roxy Music and Gang of Four.

Doofy - Way to get me to look on the bright side! I may well go down in history through that FAQ!
