7 Day ECM--a short list of interesting ECM titles that can be dl'd within a week:
Keith Jarrett: Koeln Concert, Paris Concert, In the Light (2 discs)
Art Ensemble of Chicago: Third Decade
Arvo Part: Tabula Rasa
Gary Peacock: Shift in the Wind
Paul Motian: Conception Vessel
Surman/Dejohnette: Invisible Nature
Paul Bley: Open, to love
Rypdal, Lux Aeterma
Carla Bley, I hate to sing
Ghazal, The Rain (3 tracks)
Jan Garbarek, Triptykon
Carla Bley, Musique Mecanique
Garbarek, Sart
I could be mistaken, but it looks like ECM may be gone. I finished Witchi-Tai-To last night and was going to start Conference of the Birds today, but none of it is coming up in searches. ARGH!
Every time I start thinking about how many albums I could grab from them with the daily freebie I have to remind myself that it probably won't last.
Craig, couple quick questions about Gang of Four: Which tracks did you have problems with? Did you grab all of the bonus tracks, or just the original 12? What about "Anthrax" - is the track labelled "Love Like Anthrax" the right one?
There are several bad tracks (four or five) in the original 12, which is all I got. I specifically remember that "Natural's Not in it" and "At Home He's a Tourist" were faulty, and believe "Not Great Men" and "Damaged Goods" were too, as well as another I can't quite remember. I can listen to it tonight and confirm.
"Love Like Anthrax" is "Anthrax". That was the title of "Anthrax" when it was released as a single prior to Entertainment. It is also one of the tracks that is not faulty.
anybody else get server errors when trying to download? it seems like it might be just certain tracks, but it wastes the credit every time. I was trying to get Scott 3 by Scott Walker, but I'd need to buy at least two songs to get the whole album, and so I just don't feel like wasting my time anymore.
I was one song short of finishing "Lawrence of Newark" by Larry Young when they pulled it. Luckily it is a short track that I can buy a la carte from Amazon.
The ECM departure looks like the reason for my errors. I contacted their CS after trying twice for George Russell, Jazz in the Space Age, track 5. That is on GRP, so I hope it can me fixed. in the meantime, I'll go back to filling up on Cecil Taylor's Bluenote releases.
I guess it wasn't a departure after all. I was all set to mention that Six Degrees had also fled when - lo and behold - ECM is suddenly back. And so is Six Degrees. Conference of the Birds, here I come...
Good news, thom! BUT...I got an "internal server error" when trying to DL an ECM track, and thus lost my credit for today. Anybody able to successfully DL ECM today?
If/when I can make it work, I am going to get me some Anouar Brahem...
Some more credits came through for me today. With a little bit of "extra" help, I was able to finish off one album today and got another as a bonus. Holy cow, Guvera is slowly becoming my main source for music! I'm starting to click on all the links on the ad pages to try to help them out!
What does one do when a bum track comes up? I don't see any evidence that Guvera is in a hurry to fix them, and my gut reaction is to say that if a download fails, for whatever reason, I should move on to a different album. Too bad--I only had a few tracks left to complete (to my satisfaction) Marilyn Crispell's Nothing Ever Was, Anyway.
So far I haven't had an issue with a resource error, but as I said, a lot of Entertainment was bad.
FYI - I just learned something. I'm in the process of getting Roxy Music's Country Life and had been disappointed to see that "All I Want is You" is not there when you search by the album. Just tried searching through greatest hits albums, though, and there it is. Just change the album title and track number and it's good to go.
Outside of Entertainment, I don't think I've had any bad tracks either. The one time I had a track not start downloading, I paused and restarted and it came down properly. Rather surprising considering I had even logged out already. It's possible that something else is bad - there's been the occasional distraction while listening to those 20-30 minute Kraftwerk and Can tracks.
The greatest hits thing bugs me. Either Allmusic or Wiki are typically open in another tab so that I can confirm tracklisting. With Entertainment the artwork was all over the place, too. I was also halfway through Kraftwerk's Computer World when it disappeared. Strange considering the rest of the catalog is there (grabbed The Man Machine instead).
There now seems to be an "if your download doesn't start immediately" link that goes directly to the mp3 file. So maybe that will help to avoid some lost credits. Kudos to Craig for his prompt responsiveness to this issue.
Having got the Larry Young, I started looking around for other early Joe Henderson sessions on Blue Note; thus
I think the resource not found error is a result of more than one person trying to download the track at the same time (or the actual file location is different than the link), at least that's what it usually is on other websites. Usually if I try the track the next day, it works, so I'm guessing the first reason is the cause of the error.
Given the performance issues, me thinks that they are on the same dorm server as Amie Street. Maybe they need to buy their sysadmin a case of Dr Pepper to keep him on top of things....
I'm currently in the middle of getting the new M.I.A., but up next is a Wire album. The question is, which one? Do I start at the beginning with Pink Flag? Or go to 154 first? I don't have any of their stuff, so I need help!
The problem with getting Pink Flag over there is that it'll take you 3 weeks and you'll get about 90 seconds of music/day. I'm not saying don't get it, just that it's a frustrating prospect.
Right now I'm finally getting ABC's Lexicon of Love - an album I should have owned a long time ago...

I've been considering Guvera as fund money.
